Hey everyone. If you were keeping an eye on social media over the weekend, you probably noticed that a few lucky players managed to get their hands on physical copies of 007 First Light early. As is pretty standard in the industry these days, gameplay videos quickly flooded the internet, slightly spoiling the surprise for those patiently waiting for the official launch.

Instead of going on a copyright strike rampage or dropping an angry statement, IO Interactive decided to take the high road. As initially reported by IGN and broadcasted via IO Interactive's official YouTube channel, the studio behind the recent Hitman trilogy officially released a high-definition video showing the first 13 minutes of the campaign exactly how they meant for it to be seen.

The tactical side of 007 First Light

What we see in this official preview is pretty fascinating, especially if you're a fan of classic stealth games. The action kicks off strong, with our protagonist falling into a dark ocean after his helicopter is shot down by enemies. This immediately sets the tone: a pure survival mission where you aren't the one holding all the cards.

Forget about the perfectly tailored tuxedo-wearing spy ordering a shaken martini and relying on high-tech gadgets. What IO Interactive is showing us here is an agent in a much earlier stage of his career, where missions relied heavily on raw physical endurance and quick wits to survive in hostile territory.

Clear influences from stealth legends

The vibe in this early segment of 007 First Light feels very reminiscent of something like Metal Gear Solid. We see the future 007 sneaking behind rocks, dodging heavily armed patrols under torrential rain, and climbing muddy terrain to stay hidden. The torrential rain doesn't just look visually stunning; it actually masks footsteps, showcasing how dynamic weather plays directly into the real-time stealth mechanics. It's a much more grounded and tactical approach than most people expected after the cinematic trailers we've seen so far.

IO Interactive clearly knows what they're doing when it comes to infiltration and stealth mechanics. Seeing them apply all the expertise they gathered with Agent 47 into a more dynamic and narrative-heavy context like the James Bond universe is exactly what many of us have been asking for since the project was first announced.

Official launch and early access

The studio also used this tactical move to remind everyone about the official dates. Even though a few people already have the disc due to retail slip-ups, official early access kicked off on May 26, while the global launch for everyone else is locked in for May 27. So, if you managed to dodge the spoilers, the wait is practically over.

The title will be available on day one for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. For Nintendo players, the team confirmed there's a version in development for the Switch's highly anticipated successor, though naturally, that edition will arrive further down the line. All in all, it's refreshing to see a developer handle annoying leaks with so much class, giving the community a solid look at 007 First Light instead of hiding away behind legal teams.
