The Clash Royale meta is shifting again with the September 2026 balance changes. If you felt that certain spells and evolutions were dominating Season 87, you weren't alone. This tuning patch, which went live on September 8, adjusts 18 cards to keep the game balanced without breaking the massive foundation laid back in August.

Let's break down the exact numbers and what they mean for your decks, getting straight to the point.

Biggest nerfs: Freeze and Fireball

Control and cycle spells took the hardest hits this time around.

  • Freeze: Duration drops from 4 to 3.5 seconds. Half a second sounds tiny, but it's exactly the window your opponent needs to defend that Hog Rider or Balloon push you thought was locked in.
  • Fireball: Crown Tower damage is reduced from 172 to 159. It's still a top-tier spell for clearing troops, but you can't rely on it as easily to finish off a tower in overtime.
  • Ice Golem: HP dropped from 1315 to 1228, though its death slow increased to 2.5 seconds.
  • Zappies: Attack speed was slowed down to 2.3 seconds (previously 2.2 seconds).

Evolutions and Hero cards losing power

Evolutions were controlling the board too easily, so two of the top offenders were dialed back:

  • Battle Ram Evolution: Pushback distance was reduced from 2.5 to 2 tiles.
  • Elite Barbarians Evolution: Spear range dropped by 10%, and the free rage effect now only lasts 2 seconds (down from 2.5 seconds).
  • Hero Balloon: The landing damage from the aeroskeletons dropped from 263 to 230.

September buffs: Wizard returns to the meta

It's not all bad news. A few benched cards finally got some love from the dev team.

  • Wizard: Base damage increased by 8%, from 281 to 304, making it much better at clearing swarms, even if its first attack is slightly slower now.
  • Hero Wizard: The ability duration drops from 5 to 3.5 seconds, fixing the oppressive freeze interactions it had.
  • Hero Mega Minion: A massive rework! It no longer has a Crown Tower damage reduction (dropping from 75% to 0%), meaning it hits towers with full force. It also returns to its original position after warping, with the distortion now dealing 422 damage.
  • Ronin: Attack speed increased from 1.4 to 1.3 seconds.
  • Goblin Cage: The Brawler gains extra HP, moving from 1080 to 1121.

Other balance changes for Bomber and Golem

Finally, a few behavioral tweaks change how certain cards navigate the arena:

  • Bomber Evolution: The bomb bounce travels further (from 2.5 to 3 tiles), but the base Bomber lost a bit of damage (225 down to 212).
  • Golem and Battle Ram (base): Both gained increased sight range (Golem up to 7.5 tiles, Battle Ram up to 6.5 tiles), meaning they won't ignore defensive buildings as easily anymore.

While this patch isn't the massive reset we saw last month, it definitely shifts the timing of most matches—especially with the Freeze and Fireball nerfs.
