If you've been grinding Clash Royale lately, you know Spirits are everywhere. The fast-cycle, zero-risk meta reached its breaking point. With the launch of Season 86 this August 2026, Supercell just dropped one of the most aggressive balance patches of the year. No more endless cycles without consequences, so get ready to rethink your decks from scratch.

August 2026 balance changes in Clash Royale

The main target of this patch is the Spirits family (Fire, Ice, Heal, and Electro). Their hitpoints got nerfed by 6% (from 230 down to 217). The biggest deal? They can no longer connect to Crown Towers on their own. They'll now get one-shot by cards like Archers, Archer Queen, Musketeer, and Tesla. The goal is to make them distraction cards again, rather than free pressure tools.

Another massive shift is happening to Heroes and Champions. Ability cooldowns are entirely gone. Instead, all abilities (except for Boss Bandit) are now single-use per deployment.

Goblinstein Clash Royale

To balance this out, weaker Champions got buffed. Goblinstein gets a massive 47% buff to Doctor Damage, and the Little Prince keeps his charged hit speed for 0.3 seconds while moving. The Mighty Miner also sees a 6% increase in his base damage, allowing him to two-shot Skeletons across the board.

Reworks to problematic mechanics

Several cards that fueled frustrating playstyles are getting complete reworks. As noted by strategy site TrophyCoach, the Void spell's jump from 3 to 5 Elixir completely transforms it into a tank-buster spell. It now acts as a counter to high-health ranged units like Bowler and Executioner, doubling its single-target damage from 340 up to 696.

Void spell rework

The Battle Healer loses her self-heal ability and her heal radius drops by 25%, but in return, her damage skyrockets by 81% (from 148 to 268). The Hero Ice Golem also sees a massive shift: its third blast now slows instead of freezes, though blast damage goes up 80%. The Rune Giant will now stay in motion while enchanting troops, and her hitpoints have been increased by 6% (from 2662 to 2816).

Clash Royale card buffs and nerfs

Evolutions aren't safe either. Mega Knight Evolution will now only trigger his Uppercut every other attack, though the knockback distance is bumped to 4 tiles. The Valkyrie Evolution loses 50% of her tornado damage, and Archers Evolution takes a 17% hit to power shot damage.

Annoying win conditions like Wall Breakers received a heavy 20% damage nerf, dropping to 281. The Goblin Drill will no longer deal spawn damage to towers, and the Magic Archer loses 5% of his damage (falling from 143 to 135).

On the flip side, base cards like the Mortar get a 6% faster hit speed. The Witch Evolution saw a wild 186% buff to her heal, but with a catch: she only heals from her first skeleton wave. Finally, the Furnace spawns spirits much faster now, dropping from 7 seconds down to 5 seconds per wave.

Season 86 is about to shake up the meta completely. Fast-cycle decks will have to adapt or die, and the new single-use Champion abilities demand much better timing. Time to test new decks, because the Arena rules just changed. Want to make the most of the new meta?
