Clash Royale Season 87: Minion Giant and Hero Ice Wizard Update

The Season 87 of Clash Royale, officially titled Minion Academy, has arrived this September 2026. If you've been waiting for a reason to switch up your deck and test some fresh mechanics, this update brings massive additions that will shake up the arena. According to the latest patch previews and official Supercell release notes, this season introduces a brand-new flying win condition, a significant hero upgrade, and a fresh batch of cosmetics via the Pass Royale.

New flying win condition: Minion Giant

The undisputed star of this season is the Minion Giant. This Rare card introduces a completely new flying Win Condition to the game's current meta. Unlike the traditional ground Giant that lumbers across the battlefield, this massive troop flies directly toward enemy buildings, completely bypassing ground defenses like the Cannon or Bomb Tower. Once in range, it attacks from a distance by spitting toxin at its targets.

To unlock the Minion Giant initially, players will need to jump into a special Live Event during the launch week. Once the release window wraps up, the Minion Giant will be available permanently on the Trophy Road starting at Arena 5 (Spell Valley). You will need exactly 1,300 Trophies to add this beast to your collection, making it highly accessible for mid-ladder players looking to revamp their aerial assault strategies.

Hero Ice Wizard: Frosty Fella ability

The classic frosty support troop is also getting a major upgrade this season. The new Hero Ice Wizard brings an exclusive, game-changing ability called Frosty Fella. For an activation cost of 2 Elixir, this ability spawns a protective Snowman right behind an enemy that is already affected by the wizard's standard slowdown effect.

This isn't just a simple block; the Snowman deals immediate area-of-effect (AoE) damage upon appearing and actively freezes nearby enemies for as long as it survives. With a generous seven-second lifetime, it offers incredible defensive crowd control against heavy ground pushes. However, players must be strategic—the Snowman can still be moved by displacement effects like the Tornado spell or the Bowler's boulders.

Pass Royale rewards and Minion Academy cosmetics

As usual, progression is split between the free track and the premium Diamond Pass. Players who hold the Diamond Pass (and have reached at least Arena 15) will instantly unlock the Hero Ice Wizard at the first milestone. If you prefer to stock up on other resources for your existing deck, this milestone also lets you choose between 6x Evolution Wild Shards, 1,500x Rare Wild Cards, or 150x Epic Wild Cards. Alternatively, the hero can be grabbed directly from the shop for 200 Hero Coins.

The pass also introduces the new Minion Academy Tower Skin to match the seasonal theme, alongside several fun exclusive emotes, including the highly requested Minion Giant Burp and the Ice Wizard Dance. Keep in mind that to help you climb the ladder faster, the boosted cards for this season are the Minions, Minion Horde, Mega Minion, and the Ice Wizard.
