Code Geass Returns: Star Chaser Aspal Coming in 2027

The Code Geass universe continues to expand. As part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the franchise, Sunrise unveiled the first teaser for Code Geass: Hoshi Oi no Aspal, known internationally as Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal, a new production arriving sometime in 2027.

Although there are still many mysteries surrounding the project, the first teaser offers a glimpse into some of the elements that will be part of this new story, including massive robots called Agarmatha.

Star Chaser Aspal Will Be a Completely New Story

Unlike other recent Code Geass productions, Star Chaser Aspal has not been presented as a direct continuation of the adventures of Lelouch vi Britannia.

Sunrise has described the project as a new work within the Code Geass universe, but has not yet explained exactly when in the timeline it will be set or what relationship it will have with previous stories.

For now, it has also not been confirmed whether the events will be directly connected to the continuity of Lelouch of the Rebellion or more recent productions like Rozé of the Recapture.

The mystery is precisely one of the main attractions of the first teaser.

The Agarmatha Will Be the New Combat Machines

One of the most striking elements of the teaser is the Agarmatha, massive humanoid robots that will play an important role in the new story.

Although their characteristics have not yet been explained, the promotional material shows them participating in various battles.

The design of the Agarmatha is led by Yoshi., while it remains to be seen how they function and what their exact relationship will be with Code Geass's traditional Knightmare Frames.

For now, Sunrise has not confirmed whether the Agarmatha are simply a new generation of Knightmare Frames, so we will have to wait for further details.

Will There Be Geass in This New Story?

The teaser also seems to show elements related to Geass, one of the fundamental concepts of the franchise.

However, it has not yet been revealed who the new user of this power will be or what their abilities will be.

This uncertainty opens up another major question surrounding Star Chaser Aspal: will there once again be a story focused on Geass powers, or will it play a different role this time?

For now, Sunrise is keeping plot details well under wraps.

A New Creative Team Takes the Reins

The new production will feature a different team from the early installments of Code Geass.

Kazuya Nomura will direct the project. The director has previously worked on productions such as Moriarty the Patriot and Run with the Wind.

The script and series composition will be handled by Mado Nozaki, known for works such as KADO: The Right Answer and for contributing to the script of Hello World.

Meanwhile, Rolua will be responsible for character design, while Yoshi. will design the Agarmatha.

Animation will once again be in the hands of Sunrise, the studio that has been tied to Code Geass since the franchise's inception.

A Different Code Geass From Lelouch's

Although we do not yet have enough information to know exactly what the story will be like, the first teaser makes it clear that Sunrise is betting on new characters and a different setting.

This means that fans of the franchise will have to get used to a story where, at least initially, Lelouch, Suzaku, or C.C. will not be at the center of the action.

The project also appears to aim for a different visual identity, particularly due to the designs of the new characters and the Agarmatha.

When Will Star Chaser Aspal Be Released?

Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal will arrive in 2027, although there is no specific release date yet.

Details such as the episode count, the exact broadcast season, the voice cast, or the international platforms that will distribute the series have also not been announced yet.
