Epic Games and Digital Extremes shook the 11th edition of TennoCon 2026 by confirming an unprecedented crossover between Fortnite and Warframe, right alongside the reveal of the massive free Tau expansion. For gamers who spend hours grinding both of these free-to-play titans, this means new collaborative cosmetics and an entirely unexplored solar system to conquer before the end of the year.

During the annual event celebrating the popular looter shooter's community, the studio unleashed an avalanche of announcements. While the huge lore expansions hyped up long-time fans, seeing these two heavyweights join forces was the real plot twist of the night.

What to expect from the Fortnite and Warframe collaboration

As revealed during the official TennoCon Twitch broadcast and detailed by ZonaMMORPG, both companies are keeping the exact collaborative mechanics under wraps for now. However, the simple fact that it was officially announced on a stage as big as TennoCon means it won't be just a minor detail.

Knowing Epic Games' track record, it is highly likely we will see some of the most iconic warframes dropping into the Fortnite island as skins. At the same time, we're all wondering if there will be any cosmetics, weapons, or battle royale nods inside the tenno universe itself.

Warframe Tau: Free expansion and new star chart

Shifting to the core game, the heaviest announcement of the showcase was Warframe: Tau. This will be the next major narrative chapter of the game, promising to shake things up by taking us to the Tau System for the very first time, a completely unexplored and hostile region.

This new zone will feature its own star chart to grind and explore, moving the main story forward in a massive way. Digital Extremes confirmed that Warframe: Tau will launch as a free update across all platforms before the end of the year.

To make the wait easier, the studio also announced Iceblade of Narin, a mid-season update arriving this fall. It will act as a bridge, setting the stage for our upcoming journey into the new solar system.

Brysko, Portau cards, and the Shockwave system

When it comes to new characters, we were introduced to Brysko. This new warframe brings a heavy noir-detective vibe, standing out because he’ll have a constant inner monologue during missions. Matthew Mercer, a beloved figure in the RPG community, breathes life into Brysko, ensuring his gritty, cynical observations make every mission feel like a hardboiled detective story.

The casual side of the game is also getting some love with Portau, the first-ever card minigame in this universe, which borrows a lot of mechanics from classic poker while adding unique sci-fi twists and betting mechanics using in-game resources. It looks like the perfect side activity to chill out after heavy grinding sessions.

Finally, free progression is getting a rework. The old Nightwave reward system is evolving into Shockwave, presented by the protoframe Amir (Volt). They also confirmed the arrival of Citrine Prime Access and the spectacular Mesa Heirloom Collection.

Warframe just crossed the massive milestone of 85 million players, proving the game is more alive than ever after over a decade. Between moving to a whole new star system and the hype of hopping onto the battle bus, the future looks incredibly bright.
