Task Bar Hero might look like a simple idle game running quietly on your taskbar, but it has a surprisingly deep RPG progression system. If you want to breeze through the acts without hitting a wall, setting up a solid formation early on is absolutely essential. Picking the right heroes, skills, and gear ensures you clear stages faster and hoard better loot.
In this guide, I'll walk you through the best builds and where to spend your gold in the rune tree to keep your progression moving smoothly.
The most balanced and powerful setup relies on three characters: the Priest, the Ranger, and the Sorcerer. This trio covers everything from area-of-effect (AoE) damage to single-target burst and frontline tanking. Once you settle on your team, remember that swapping character positions on the fly doesn't trigger any heavy penalty cooldowns. Still, I highly suggest sticking to this trio so you can focus entirely on perfecting their gear. Build your Priest to absorb damage right out of the gate to guarantee your party's survival.
Slot 1: Priest The Priest is easily the best character in the game. She acts as both a frontline damage sponge and a support buffer.

Slot 2: Ranger or Hunter The Ranger is incredible because her Rapid Fire scales directly with her attack speed. If you prefer the Hunter, she works great as well.
Slot 3: Sorcerer The Sorcerer is your dedicated AoE damage dealer. While the Priest holds the enemies back, she can wipe out grouped-up mobs.
Getting your characters to level 20 unlocks some major skill upgrades. You should keep the same three-hero formation, but swap out some abilities to handle the tougher late-game enemies.
For the Priest, healing becomes a huge priority, so swap to Sanctuary while keeping Blessing of Might. The Ranger should respec into pure single-target damage by dropping Arrow Rain for Swift Surge. Finally, for the Sorcerer, swap Fireball out for Flame Hydra, which acts like a magical turret and provides a massive bump to your continuous DPS.
Your long-term power comes from the Rune Tree. Spend your early gold heading South to unlock the extra formation slots. Having three active heroes is the biggest power spike you can get. After that, head North-West to increase your gold gain per kill.
The final nodes on the outer edges of the Rune Tree can cost up to 50 million gold coins. Do not even bother looking at those during your first few days. Instead, steadily level up your combat stats and chest drop rates to ensure your AFK farming sessions yield the maximum amount of resources possible.

When farming, clearing slightly easier stages quickly is usually better than struggling through a hard one. Use the Portal to fast-travel to efficient farming spots.
The game gives you a handy tool for gear management called the Hero-dric Cube. Synthesis lets you combine 9 items of the same rarity to create a higher-tier item. Synthesis is strictly an endgame mechanic for when your inventory is bursting with gear. The system allows you to mix lower-level pieces as fodder, as long as they fit within the required range.
But early on, it is absolutely critical to hoard your Gold for account progression instead of gambling it away on weapon combinations. Instead, use Alchemy to turn your junk gear into extra gold. Just be super careful and lock your good items using Alt + Left Click, or the auto-fill might destroy your best gear.
If you manage to drop Immortal rarity gear or higher, you can list it on the Steam Market via the Steam Trade Ship. Just make sure to strip any sockets or engravings first.
Also, don't ignore your pets! Their passive buffs apply even if they aren't visually equipped. Lastly, make sure the auto-retry toggle (the blue button in the corner) is on so your game can continuously farm without needing your attention.
