Hey guys! The Free Fire OB55 update is finally here, and it brings way more than just the Naruto crossover. According to Garena's official patch notes and the latest breakdowns on the Free Fire YouTube channel, one of the most important changes that flew slightly under the radar thanks to the Nine-Tails hype is the complete overhaul of the tactical devices system.

Before this patch, we had a major issue: we could only equip one device at a time. This meant that if you wanted to run a passive item (like the Signal Jammer), you had to sacrifice a mobility or healing item. This ended up hurting the flow for more aggressive players. Now, Garena has split the tactical arsenal into two categories: Active and Passive.

With this adjustment in Free Fire OB55, you can now carry 1 active device and 1 passive device at the same time. This means way more combinations, more options for aggressive pushes, and a much smoother meta. Let's break down how to build the best loadout.

How to Equip Tactical Devices in the Lobby

Before you even jump out of the plane, you need to set up your loadout properly. From the main menu, head over to the 'Weapons' tab and select 'Loadout'. You will now see two distinct slots at the bottom of your screen: one labeled 'Active' and one labeled 'Passive'. Simply tap on each slot to browse your unlocked devices and equip them. Remember, your loadouts can be customized separately for Battle Royale (BR) and Clash Squad (CS) modes, so make sure you adjust both to fit the different maps and paces!

Tactical Device Categories in Free Fire

To make sure you don't fall behind this season, here is the complete list of how items are split and what your options are.

New tactical items

Active Devices

These are the ones that require you to press a button to work their magic. They are your main tools for initiating a fight, escaping, or securing loot.

  • Active Skill Card: Allows you to use a secondary skill. Ideal for aggressive combos.
  • Launchpad: The classic choice. A must-have for quick repositioning or flanking.
  • Supply Crate: Perfect for securing fast loot without leaving yourself too exposed.
  • Drone: Send it out to reveal campers before rushing a compound.
  • Mini Turret: Excellent for covering your six or defending tight chokepoints.
  • Portal: The absolute best option for quick squad rotations.

Passive Devices

These operate in the background without needing manual activation. They keep your mind clear to focus on landing your shots.

  • Dragon Steps: Ideal for moving stealthily and surprising enemies without making a sound.
  • Signal Jammer: Your best friend for staying hidden from enemy drones and tracking skills. It even gives you a neat heads-up now when it blocks an enemy scan.
  • New Future (New): The fresh addition in OB55. A brand-new passive device that gives you a subtle edge without interrupting your gameplay loop.

Best Device Combos for Different Roles

To truly master Free Fire OB55, your squad needs to coordinate their tactical devices to cover all bases. Having two slots changes the whole game.

  • The Entry Fragger (Rusher): If you're a highly aggressive player, I highly recommend running the Launchpad with Dragon Steps. You can launch yourself right next to the enemy team, and your footsteps will stay dead silent when you land and push.
  • The Support/Medic: Combining the Portal with New Future allows you to quickly extract a downed teammate from the frontline while keeping a subtle edge in cooldowns and revives.
  • The IGL/Sniper: If you prefer playing it safe or are your squad's In-Game Leader, combining the Drone with the Signal Jammer is completely broken. You get to see where everyone is, but they remain completely blind to your location.

OB55 combat changes

New Naruto Tactical Throwables: Kunais and Shurikens

Beyond the core device system, the OB55 update also introduced special throwable weapons for Clash Squad and Battle Royale that act as incredible tactical tools.

  • Light Shuriken: Throws 3 shurikens in a row, dealing 17 to 28 damage each. Switch firing modes to throw all three at once!
  • Fire Kunai: Explodes shortly after hitting the target, stripping away 10% of armor durability per second.
  • Thunder and Wind Kunai: The thunder variant blocks enemies from using grenades and their minimap for 3 seconds, while the wind variant slows movement speed by up to 50%.

These act as perfect extensions to your build. Imagine running a Portal, Dragon Steps, and tossing a few Thunder Kunais to completely blind the enemy team's tactical information. It's crazy what you can pull off now.

Getting used to juggling two devices and new throwables will take a few drops, but the tactical freedom is absolutely worth it. See you in Bermuda—try not to get hit by a Tailed Beast Bomb!
