In the latest edition of the GAM3 Awards 2024, held on November 22, Moonfrost emerged as the big winner in the Best Art Direction category. This prestigious recognition highlights the creativity, leadership, and cohesion of the team behind this project, who managed to capture an exceptional artistic vision and an impeccable virtual world in Moonfrost.
The development team of Moonfrost started their project with a blank canvas and an ambitious dream: to create a game that was not only beautiful, but also redefined the boundaries of pixel art. The "art bible," a document that guided all visual aspects of the game, was the first step in this impeccable project.
One of the key decisions was to adopt an isometric perspective instead of the traditional top-down view. This choice allowed for the creation of a more dynamic and eye-catching world, where every corner hides fascinating details. In addition, the implementation of a hybrid 2D/3D lighting system adds depth and realism to the environments, creating a magical atmosphere that changes throughout the day and night.
The characters of Moonfrost are a mix of cuteness and personality. The chibis, with their careful and expressive designs, accompany us on our adventures through the game world. The avatars, on the other hand, offer greater customization and allow us to create unique characters that reflect our own identity.
Here's the text:
Every element of Moonfrost from the characters to the environments, has been designed with meticulous care. Attention to detail is evident throughout the game, from smooth animations to stunning visual effects. Dynamic lighting, day-night cycles, and interactive environments create an immersive experience that invites exploration of every corner of the world.
Moonfrost is not just a game, it is a work of art. The development team has shown that pixel art can be much more than a retro aesthetic. By combining traditional techniques with modern technology, they have created a visually stunning world that captivates players of all ages.
