What started as a campaign of just $20 to help a child get views on YouTube ended, according to his father, in a bill of approximately $118,000.

The nine-year-old minor is the creator of Mighty Mike Plays, a channel mainly dedicated to Minecraft and Roblox. His father claims that he initially set up a small ad campaign to show him how to promote his videos, but the child reportedly went on to create new campaigns on his own.

The issue was that a corporate card from his father's workplace was stored in the Google account used to make the payments. For approximately three weeks, the ads reportedly generated hundreds of thousands of views and charges that, according to the family, reached US$118,000.

The Father Lost His Job

The situation came to light when the company detected the charges. In a subsequent update, the father stated that he was fired and that the company is requiring him to return the US$118,000 within 30 days. He also claimed that the family is considering selling their home to cope with the debt.

The ads did have a significant impact on the channel's views. Some of his videos managed to accumulate hundreds of thousands of views, although these were gained through advertising campaigns and do not necessarily represent organic growth.

The Story Also Raises Doubts

The case quickly went viral and began to raise doubts among some users and content creators. The main issue is the US$118,000 figure itself, which stems from the father's account and has not been publicly confirmed by Google or the company involved.

The family has shown documentation related to the charges, while the father has rejected accusations that the story is a hoax. He has also publicly defended his version of events against those who have questioned the case.

Therefore, although the story has been widely circulated, it is most accurate to speak of an alleged $118,000 spent on YouTube advertising, attributed by the family to the campaigns created by the minor.

The case has also brought to light the risks of leaving corporate payment methods linked to accounts accessible to minors, especially when dealing with platforms that allow setting advertising budgets with just a few clicks.
