Teamfight Tactics (TFT) is about to undergo one of the most important changes in its history. Riot Games announced that the game will leave its current engine to fully migrate to Unreal Engine and will have its own standalone client on PC.

What does this change mean?

Since its launch in 2019, TFT has run inside the League of Legends client. Now, the game will become completely independent. This will allow the development team to work more freely and improve the player experience in the long term.

The change will officially begin with Set 18, which arrives during the summer of 2026.

What will change for players?

On PC:

  • There will be a large update with the arrival of Set 18.
  • Shortly after, a standalone TFT client will be released, so you won't need to open League of Legends anymore.

On Mobile (iOS and Android):

  • The current app will be replaced by a new version built on Unreal Engine.
  • You won't need to uninstall the existing app. It will be handled as a major update.

Advantages of this change

  • Better performance and stability.
  • Easier addition of graphical and mechanical improvements.
  • League of Legends and TFT will be able to evolve independently without affecting each other.

This move aims to prepare TFT for the coming years with a more modern and flexible technical foundation.
