The manga Phantom Busters, written and illustrated by Neoshoco, will finally make the leap to television with an anime adaptation scheduled for 2027. The news was officially announced on September 24, 2026, although for now, many details regarding the production remain to be revealed.

The series, published in the pages of Shueisha's Jump SQ. magazine, combines school comedy, supernatural elements, and exorcisms, but with a rather striking twist: one of its main characters can devour ghosts to exorcise them.

What is Phantom Busters about?

The story follows Yujin Korekishi, a student with excellent grades who does not believe in ghosts and, furthermore, completely lacks spiritual perception.

Everything changes when he meets Mogari Shishikuno, a young exorcist with a rather peculiar ability: he can eliminate spirits by eating them.

However, Mogari has a fairly major problem: he cannot see ghosts by himself.

The situation leads both of them to join forces and end up forming an exorcism club at their school. Later, other students join, including Kaoru Kanzaki, who possesses the ability to see spirits, and Kotaro Tamon, a young man capable of communicating with ghosts, although he has difficulty interacting with living people.

In this way, the four end up involved in a series of supernatural situations that combine battles against spirits with plenty of school comedy.

A Ghost Story Set in Kamakura

One of the interesting elements of Phantom Busters is its setting.

The story is set in Kamakura, a Japanese city in Kanagawa Prefecture known for its temples, shrines, and numerous historical sites.

This setting fits especially well with a story centered on ghosts and exorcists, while allowing the series to combine supernatural elements with the daily lives of its main characters.

Neoshoco began publishing Phantom Busters in Jump SQ. in August 2023, and the work is currently ongoing.
