Bandai Namco Entertainment officially announced Dragon Ball Game Project “AGE 1000”, a new video game set in the Dragon Ball universe, scheduled for release in 2027. The project was unveiled on January 25, 2026, during the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event, held as part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

The announcement confirmed that this is an entirely new proposal within the saga, featuring an original world and new characters designed by Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball, who participated in the project’s conceptual development prior to his passing in 2024.

A key announcement during Dragon Ball’s 40th anniversary

The presentation of Project Age 1000 was accompanied by an initial teaser that introduced a completely new setting within the Dragon Ball universe. Unlike other titles focused on recreating well-known arcs from the manga and anime, this project aims to expand the franchise’s timeline with original scenarios and characters.

Bandai Namco framed the announcement as part of the four-decade celebration of the series, emphasizing its intention to continue developing original content that expands the narrative universe of Dragon Ball beyond its classic stories.

Project development and release window

According to official information, Project Age 1000 has been in development for approximately six to seven years, including early planning and conceptual design stages. This extended production period suggests a project conceived as a significant entry within the franchise’s video game catalog.

Bandai Namco confirmed that the game is scheduled for release in 2027. However, the company has not yet officially announced the platforms on which it will be available, nor has it specified whether it will be a multiplatform release.

An original world with new characters

One of the core elements of Project Age 1000 is the introduction of entirely new characters created by Akira Toriyama. The teaser presented by Bandai Namco shows at least one original character associated with Capsule Corporation, capable of transforming into a Super Saiyan.

These characters are not part of the traditional Dragon Ball cast, reinforcing the idea that the game will tell an independent story set in a different period from the most well-known anime and manga sagas.

The “Age 1000” era within the Dragon Ball timeline

The project’s name refers to the dating system used within the Dragon Ball universe. In the official chronology, the year 1000 is set approximately 216 years after the final events of the Majin Buu saga in Dragon Ball Z.

This same era was previously explored in Dragon Ball Online, a PC MMORPG that was active between 2009 and 2013. Although Bandai Namco has not confirmed any direct connection between the two titles, the choice of this time period has generated comparisons and expectations regarding its possible narrative approach.

Pending information and upcoming official announcements

So far, Bandai Namco has not revealed specific details about the game’s gameplay, genre, core mechanics, or full story structure. No gameplay demonstrations or extended materials have been released beyond the initial teaser.

The company has indicated that new information will be shared during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 event, scheduled for April 18 and 19, 2026, in Los Angeles, a recurring venue for major announcements related to the franchise’s video games.
