The Master Chief is back and looking better than ever. The acclaimed classic that defined a generation is getting a well-deserved facelift with Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake developed in Unreal Engine 5 that launches on July 28, 2026. If you prefer experiencing your shooters with a keyboard and mouse, this is the perfect time to check if your hardware is up to the challenge.
If you are planning to relive this epic adventure on your PC, the good news is that Halo Studios and Xbox Game Studios have done a solid optimization job. You won't need a quantum supercomputer to run it at a stable 60 FPS, although if your goal is to push the graphics engine to the max in 4K resolution, you will have to demand quite a bit from your components. Below, we break down all the confirmed requirements based on the latest developer updates.
For those looking to enjoy the story without worrying too much about extreme resolutions, the most accessible configurations are quite friendly. In fact, PC parts released back in 2019 are more than enough to maintain a smooth refresh rate in Full HD (1080p). This is the ideal setup if your PC is already a few years old but still packs a punch.
Minimum (1080p / 60 FPS / Low Settings):
If your monitor is 1440p and you want an ideal balance between visual fidelity and performance, the medium configuration is the sweet spot. It slightly raises the demands on the graphics card and processor, but it remains accessible for most current mid-range PC builds.
Medium (1440p / 60 FPS / High Settings):
Now we enter high-end territory. To squeeze the most out of Unreal Engine 5 in glorious 4K, the technical demands take a major leap. If you want to see the Halo ring with photorealistic detail, perfect dynamic shadows, and next-generation textures, it is time to put those 32 GB of RAM to work.

High - Recommended (4K / 60 FPS / Epic Settings):
For absolute enthusiasts who accept no compromises, the Ultra requirements push hardware to its absolute limit. This is where the elite graphics cards and top-tier processors that currently lead the market will truly shine.
Ultra (4K / 60 FPS / Max Settings with Ray Tracing):
Because Halo: Campaign Evolved runs on Unreal Engine 5, it leverages two massive features: Lumen (fully dynamic global illumination) and Nanite (virtualized geometry). Lumen ensures that light bouncing off the Master Chief's armor or the vibrant flora of the Halo ring looks completely realistic without pre-baked lighting. However, Lumen is heavily dependent on GPU compute power. If you find your frame rates dropping in wide-open outdoor environments, lowering the Global Illumination settings from "Epic" to "High" can save you around 15-20% in performance with a barely noticeable visual downgrade.
Thankfully, Xbox Game Studios has confirmed support for all major AI upscaling technologies at launch. If you are struggling to hit a stable 60 FPS at 1440p or 4K, turning on NVIDIA DLSS 3 (if you have an RTX 40-series card) or AMD FSR 3 will be your best friend. Both technologies include frame generation, which essentially doubles your frame rate in exchange for a tiny amount of input latency. We highly recommend playing on the "Quality" preset for upscaling, as "Performance" mode can sometimes make distant covenant enemies look a bit blurry.
Beyond having the most powerful hardware, there are several technical details you should consider to ensure the game runs flawlessly.
The main and non-negotiable requirement is using a solid-state drive (SSD). In today's era of gaming, installing a massive release on a traditional hard drive (HDD) will cause constant stuttering and endless load times. Make sure you clear up that 100 GB of space, preferably on a fast NVMe drive to take advantage of DirectStorage APIs.
Another crucial detail suggested by the development studio is activating Resizable BAR (or Smart Access Memory for AMD users) from your motherboard's BIOS. This feature allows your processor to simultaneously access all of your graphics card's video memory (VRAM), eliminating bottlenecks and providing a significant improvement in the game's overall fluidity, especially at higher resolutions where VRAM bandwidth is pushed to the limit.
Finally, playing this remake requires using Windows 11 mandatorily. If you are still using Windows 10, you'll need to consider upgrading before July 28. Prepare your storage drives, update your video drivers, and get ready; the return to the Master Chief's origins promises to be spectacular in this new generation.
