Fortnite’s aquatic zones have once again become some of the most important locations during matches thanks to the so-called Poseidon Harpoon, a special item that allows players to access high-rarity loot and increase the chances of obtaining Mythic weapons through fishing.

Between hidden chests, ocean whirlpools, and special fishing spots, the harpoon has become one of the most sought-after tools of the season.
The Poseidon Harpoon works as an advanced variant of Fortnite’s traditional fishing tools. Unlike a regular fishing rod, this item is designed to pull higher-quality loot from specific areas of the map connected to deep waters or underwater locations.
Its biggest attraction is the possibility of obtaining Mythic weapons, something that normally has a very low chance through standard fishing.
Although Epic Games does not always explain every hidden mechanic within each season, multiple community reports and specialized media outlets agree that this item significantly improves the quality of loot obtained from certain aquatic locations.
One of the most important things to understand is that the Poseidon Harpoon does not always spawn in a fixed location. Its position may vary depending on map rotations, active events, and changes introduced through updates.

However, most players are finding it in areas connected to the ocean biome and underwater structures.
In some matches, it can also appear as floor loot in coastal areas located far from the map’s main hotspots.
Getting the harpoon is only the first step. The real advantage comes from using it correctly inside special fishing zones. Within the abyssal biome, some fishing areas visually stand out from normal fishing spots.
These indicators usually signal higher-rarity loot.
Mythic weapons do not automatically appear on the first attempt. Some players report needing several consecutive uses before obtaining Mythic-tier equipment.
The exact amount depends on the game’s RNG, meaning Fortnite’s random probability system.
Mythic fishing zones have become highly contested areas during matches. Many players land directly in these locations looking to secure powerful weapons before the rest of the lobby.
For this reason, spending too much time fishing can quickly become risky, especially during the early stages of a match.

The available loot constantly changes depending on Fortnite’s active season and Epic Games’ weapon pool decisions.
Although both mechanics may seem similar, there are major differences between using a regular fishing rod and the Poseidon Harpoon.
Traditional fishing usually rewards players with consumables, ammo, or low-rarity weapons. Mythic fishing, on the other hand, focuses on high-tier loot and requires special map locations.
Additionally, while regular fishing can be done in almost any body of water, the actual chances of obtaining powerful gear are significantly lower.
Many experienced players are using specific routes to maximize their chances of obtaining Mythic weapons quickly.
It is also common for some players to hide near special fishing spots to eliminate anyone who obtains Mythic loot. Because of this, controlling the surrounding area is just as important as finding the harpoon itself.
