Ubisoft, in collaboration with LayerZero, has launched a new verification system called the Decentralized Verification Network (DVN). This network enables users to safely transfer digital assets (such as characters, weapons, or coins) across more than 130 blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon.

With this initiative, Ubisoft strengthens its commitment to Web3 gaming, where players can truly own and control their digital items.

What is a DVN and why does it matter?

DVNs (Decentralized Verification Networks) help ensure that information sent between different blockchains is accurate and secure. This is especially important when a game allows assets or currencies to move from one network to another.

Unlike centralized systems where a single company decides everything, this model allows multiple verification sources to work together. For example, a game may require confirmation from several DVNs before accepting a transaction, reducing the risk of fraud or mistakes.

More interoperability, fewer barriers

Ubisoft wants to make it easier for players to carry their items from one game to another, even across different networks. With this technology, digital assets become more useful and long-lasting, as they are no longer locked to a single game or platform.

According to Didier Genevois, executive producer at Ubisoft:

“With this new network, we improve security and make it easier to move game items between platforms. This allows us to be where the players are.”

This paves the way for a true open game economy, where everything you earn or purchase is genuinely yours and usable wherever you want.

What does LayerZero offer?

LayerZero is a technology that allows different blockchain networks to “communicate” with each other. Its latest version, LayerZero V2, lets each game choose how it wants to protect its transactions. For example:

  • A smaller game can use a basic security setup.
  • A game handling large amounts of value can use a stronger, more complex system.

The best part: this can be done without having to rebuild the game from scratch. This makes the system more flexible, secure, and efficient for all developers and users.

Ubisoft’s journey in the Web3 space

This announcement is part of Ubisoft’s broader involvement in blockchain gaming:

  • In 2021, they tested NFTs with Ghost Recon: Breakpoint using the Tezos network.
  • In 2024, they launched Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles on Oasys, a strategy game featuring 75,000 champions as NFTs.
  • They also released Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. on Arbitrum, though it saw limited engagement.
  • Now, they’re preparing to launch Might & Magic: Fates on Immutable zkEVM, a card game with optional blockchain integration.

The collaboration between Ubisoft and LayerZero marks a major step toward a future where games are more connected, more secure, and more player-focused.

Thanks to this new verification network, it will be easier to use and protect digital items, no matter what platform you’re playing on. It’s a clear signal that Ubisoft is no longer just experimenting with new technologies—it’s actively helping to build the future of decentralized gaming.
