Faraway, the well-known game developer based in the USA, has announced significant expansions to its game portfolio, including the upcoming mobile game Rebel Skies and a strategic partnership that introduces web3 elements into Villains: Robot Battle Royale. This development further solidifies Faraway's commitment to integrating blockchain technology into conventional games.

Faraway's Web3 IP

Backed by major investors like Lightspeed, Sequoia, and a16z, Faraway has been making waves in the blockchain gaming scene with the release of browser-based FPS Mini Royale: Nations and the mutant-themed city builder Serum City, along with its creation platform, Faraway Shop.

Recently, Faraway announced the acquisition of HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara from Yuga Labs. Having already collaborated with Yuga Labs on projects like Dookey Dash Unclogged, Faraway's commitment to web3 game development is evident.

Rebel Skies: A new real-time action and strategy game

Rebel Skies, the latest addition to Faraway's lineup, is a real-time strategy (RTS) action game with deck-building mechanics. The game, compared to Clash Royale, stands out for using a horizontal mode for gameplay. Currently in its early alpha stage, Rebel Skies will be globally launched in October 2024. After its release, the game will also feature web3 elements, allowing players to interact with blockchain-based assets, including those of HV-MTL intellectual property.

What is

HV-MTL?

HV-MTL is a collection of 30,000 mechs with eight different types of energy sources. The HV-MTL mechs were initially created by Yuga Labs and were part of the on-chain game HV-MTL Forge.

The game, which evolved from a pet simulator and world creator to a competitive dungeon exploration game, allowed players to upgrade their mechs over several seasons, thus improving their skills. The integration of these mechs into various IPs in Faraway's portfolio is expected to add depth to the arena shooter game.

Villains: Robot Battle Royale

In addition to Rebel Skies, Faraway has partnered with South Korean mobile game developer Birdletter to incorporate web3 technology into the mobile game Villains: Robot Battle Royale. This partnership will initially focus on integrating blockchain elements, specifically incorporating assets from Legends of the Mara and HV-MTL into the game. Villains is currently in open beta and its web3 features are expected to be activated alongside the game's global launch.

The integration of these web3 elements reflects Faraway's broader strategy of merging traditional games with blockchain technology. By allowing players to own and trade digital assets within the game, Faraway aims to enhance the mobile gaming experience and provide new opportunities for player engagement.
