Gamescom 2025 once again positioned itself as the global epicenter of video games. Held in Cologne, Germany, the event brought together over 1,500 exhibitors and hundreds of thousands of attendees, solidifying its role as a launch showcase and trend barometer. Its opening gala, Opening Night Live (ONL), hosted by Geoff Keighley, delivered a wave of announcements and premieres that set the tone for the rest of the year.

Releases with Dates and Gameplay

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Team Cherry unveiled new areas like Glassroot Cradle, more aggressive enemies, and a redesigned charm system. Hornet will have smoother vertical movement abilities. Available on PC (Steam and DRM-free), consoles, and Game Pass from day one.

Resident Evil 9: Requiem

November 2025

Capcom revealed a trailer set in a gothic Eastern European setting. The protagonist is Alan, a paranormal investigator. Combat includes stealth, conventional weapons, and rituals. Winner of 4 Gamescom Awards, including Best Visuals and Best PlayStation Game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Set in 2035, the game features a cooperative campaign and PvE mode “Endgame.” Missions take place in Bogotá and Istanbul, with the return of David Mason and Raúl Menéndez. Available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X/S, and PC, with day-one access on Game Pass.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Playable demo featuring dual combat between Naoe (stealth) and Yasuke (brute force). Includes dynamic weather cycles and a local reputation system. Set in 16th-century Japan with historical accuracy and supernatural elements.

Shadowdrops, Remakes, and Surprises

  • The Rogue Prince of Persia: Released directly during the event. Improved animations, bosses, and narrative. Relic system alters environments each run.
  • Trails in the Sky (Remake): Playable demo with full Spanish voiceover. Revamped tactical combat and expanded story scenes.
  • Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection: Remastered compilation including Mythologies: Sub-Zero, Special Forces, and Shaolin Monks. Includes museum mode.

Hardware and Technical Demos

  • Steam Deck 2: New model with upgraded CPU/GPU. Demos run at 60fps in 4K docked mode. Outperforms ROG Ally in sustained performance.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 (behind closed doors): Technical demos of Super Mario 3D and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Enhanced. Both run at 4K/60fps. A special Nintendo Direct is expected.
