Marathon Season 2: Bungie Adds PvE Modes

The landscape of Marathon Season 2 is about to change significantly. Starting June 2, Bungie is shaking up its extraction shooter by introducing new cooperative PvE modes, answering the community's call for a slightly smoother experience.

It's an interesting move from the studio, showing they are listening to feedback and trying to make the learning curve less punishing without losing the core tactical extraction gameplay.

The upcoming wipe and end-of-season rewards

Before diving into the new era, an update lands on May 19 to ramp up both threats and loot for the final stretch of the current season. As is standard in the genre, get ready for a complete "wipe"—you will lose your level, gear, and faction upgrades, but your hard-earned cosmetics are totally safe.

Also, if the endgame map Cryo Archive seemed completely out of reach, Bungie is opening it up daily from May 21 to June 2. Every player will receive a free entry kit each day so nobody misses out on the high-tier action.

PvE modes to learn the ropes without the stress

The biggest highlight of this update is the shift toward PvE. Game Director Joe Ziegler confirmed they are dropping two new modes designed to help out players who find the game a bit too hardcore. The first one hits early in the season, mixing PvE with some light PvP elements.

Later down the line, a purely cooperative mode will be released. The main goal here is to lower the match intensity, giving newcomers a safe space to figure out the mechanics before they have to face off against PvP veterans.

The long-term roadmap is already locked in. Season 3 will focus on improving the initial player experience, Season 4 will add more depth to the core extraction loop, and Season 5 will evolve the entire PvPvE ecosystem of the world.
