The latest Moonfrost update brought major news: new gameplay mechanics, a brand-new map, full integration with Open Loot, and key details about the early access coming in May. All of this was presented in the "The Road to Early Access" livestream series, where the team showcased real development progress and answered community questions.
If you want to know what you'll be able to do in the game and how its Web3 economy will work, here's the full summary.
During March, it was confirmed that Moonfrost will enter early access in May 2025, with a much more complete version than previous alphas. To prepare the community, the team launched the program “The Road to Early Access”: livestreams with Jase (Marketing & Community Lead), sharing development updates, interviews with founders and artists, player Q&A, and demonstrations of new features.
At the same time, the studio continues refining key systems and gathering feedback from testers who participated in closed trials.
The new features coming to the game aim to expand the player experience and reinforce the feeling of a living, connected world. Among them:
One of the biggest announcements was the new map The Mountain, the largest area created so far. This new environment features:
In addition, The Mountain will be a socially-focused zone: it's planned to include multiplayer components, allowing player interaction in a shared environment.
On the economic side, the game will introduce a rarity system that affects obtainable items, with nine levels ranging from common to transcendent. This system will impact both progression and the ability to trade higher-value items in the Web3 ecosystem.
A whitepaper will be published soon, explaining how rewards, tokens, and the progression system will work—with or without NFTs. This will be key to understanding the game's sustainability model and how players can maximize their benefits.
Another highlight is the SHARDs, a new way to involve players in the Web3 ecosystem even before the official launch of the $FROST token.
To ease the onboarding of new players into the Web3 world, Moonfrost is now fully integrated with the Open Loot platform. This will allow:
Additionally, the team confirmed that a new NFT collection will be launched in collaboration with Open Loot before early access begins.
The studio remains active not just in development but also in sharing the process with the community. Gina Nelson, founder of the game, continues to publish entries in her “Diary of a Boss Witch” series, detailing the challenges of leading an indie project, her evolving role as CEO, and the vision behind Moonfrost.
Meanwhile, artist Joe Coggins revealed the 3D design of “Jack,” a new character that will be available from early access. And Jase attended events like GDC in San Francisco, where he presented the game’s vision at Wolves Den, Immutable Salon, and Avalanche Meet, receiving great feedback from other Web3 developers.
The community played a key role during March. Some highlights and moments include:
The team is even considering including community voices in future official streams, as a way to continue fostering a close and transparent relationship.
During the March livestreams, several important community questions were addressed:
Why did the development pace change?
The team shifted from small, slow updates to a more modular and agile approach, with more robust content per release.
Will fishing become deeper in the future?
Yes. Systems like fish breeding, tournaments, and even boat fishing are being considered, though they won’t be available at initial early access.
Will players be able to trade items?
Yes. Open Loot will support P2P trading for certain items, directly affecting their rarity and market value.
Will the economic model be public before launch?
Confirmed. The economic whitepaper and ecosystem rules will be available before early access.
