Roblox AI Chat Rephrasing is a new feature that uses AI to rewrite profanity in in-experience text chat. The update, announced March 5, 2026, aims to keep conversations readable while enforcing Community Standards.
The system replaces blocked hashmarks ("#####") with milder, context-aware phrasing—so a message like "Hurry tf up!" may appear as "Hurry up!" to preserve intent and flow.
Roblox’s updated filter adds a third AI layer that forwards uncertain messages to larger reasoning models. Those models analyze context and either rephrase profanity or keep standard filtering when needed.
Rephrasing is focused on profanity initially; rephrased messages still count as violations and can trigger the same moderation if users persist.
Real-time rephrasing is available only for in-experience chat between age-verified users of similar age groups and their Trusted Connections. It supports all languages handled by Roblox’s translation tools.
Roblox notifies everyone in the chat when a message has been rephrased, aiming to guide rather than abruptly block conversation.
According to Roblox, the new system reduces false negatives (for example, when users post personal info) and improves detection of leet-speak and bypass attempts. The company reported large improvements from the added reasoning layer.
The rollout is a step toward reducing visible "#####" markers and eventually retiring them to make chat more natural without sacrificing safety.
Will rephrasing change how players communicate long-term? Roblox believes steering language with AI—rather than hard blocking—keeps gameplay smoother while still teaching community rules.
