The beginning of an adventure

In the 1980s, video games were still trying to establish themselves. Many companies were competing for players’ attention, and Nintendo took a bold step with its NES console. Super Mario Bros. featured colorful levels, enemies like Goombas and Koopas, and unforgettable music that is still recognized today. Mario, with his red cap and mission to rescue the princess, became a beloved character worldwide.

How Mario’s family grew

Since 1985, the Mario saga has evolved with every console generation. Super Mario 64 took players into a 3D world that changed game design forever. Super Mario Galaxy transported him to planets and space settings. Later, Super Mario Odyssey let players explore open worlds alongside Cappy, a unique companion.

Beyond video games, Mario also starred in an animated movie, appeared in TV series, and even has his own theme park: Super Nintendo World.

In total, the franchise has sold more than 800 million copies worldwide, cementing Mario as one of the most recognized characters in the industry.

Why Mario matters

Mario is more than a digital hero. His image became a cultural symbol that connects people of all ages. Kids, teens, and adults have enjoyed his games, from the NES to the Nintendo Switch. His presence also extends to t-shirts, toys, collections, and social media, where fans share artwork, videos, and creations inspired by him.

For many developers, Mario proves that a simple idea can turn into a global phenomenon.
