Landing, rushing to grab loot, and ending up with the wrong weapon at the worst possible moment is a situation every Free Fire player knows well. With an arsenal of more than 50 weapons —including assault rifles, submachine guns, shotguns, sniper rifles, and designated marksman rifles (DMRs)— knowing what to carry in your loadout can make the difference between winning a fight or getting eliminated in seconds.
To understand the current tier list, we need to go back to March 1, 2026, when Garena applied a change that completely reshaped player priorities: it significantly increased the durability of level 3 vests, the highest tier available in matches.
Until that moment, the rule was simple: more bullet damage meant a better weapon. Since March, that is no longer enough. What really matters is armor penetration, meaning a weapon’s ability to ignore part of the protection provided by the enemy’s vest.
Weapons that already had this feature built in, without relying on attachments, became dominant, and that remains the key factor shaping the ranking this season. Before going into each weapon in detail, it is important to understand how these tiers are read.
The Groza remains, for most analysts, the most highly rated weapon in the game overall. It is not the highest damage weapon or the longest-range one, but it is the one that best balances both: with 30 bullets dealing 61 damage each, high accuracy, and a well-balanced fire rate, it performs reliably in both mid-range and close-range fights.
It is mainly obtained through airdrops, which also explains part of its prestige.
If Groza is the versatile option, MP40 is pure speed. It is the fastest-firing submachine gun in the game, which is why players call it “the hose”: it empties its magazine in seconds, drastically reducing time-to-kill.
It is the preferred weapon of aggressive players, especially in close-range combat.
The UMP deserves a special mention because it perfectly explains why the meta changed. Unlike most SMGs, it comes with built-in armor penetration, without needing attachments.
Combined with its ease of control, it became one of the most versatile weapons since March 2026, especially against players wearing level 3 vests in high-rank matches.
In close-range combat, the reference remains the M1887. This shotgun can eliminate an enemy in a single shot under the right conditions, making it the weapon with the lowest TTK in the game when fights happen at point-blank range.
At long range, the AWM dominates as the most effective sniper rifle in the game, especially when equipped with a silencer to avoid revealing the shooter’s position.
It is complemented by the M82B, another sniper whose value is not only damage: it can destroy gloo walls, the most commonly used defensive cover in the game, allowing players to break enemy defenses.
Completing this group is the Woodpecker, a designated marksman rifle (DMR) that became the weapon with the highest armor penetration in the entire game: it can pierce high-level vests efficiently.
It is easier to handle than a traditional sniper rifle, making it an ideal alternative for players who want long-range damage without a steep learning curve.
One step below Tier S are weapons with strong overall performance, but each with noticeable limitations in control, damage, or versatility.
This tier includes weapons that can perform well in experienced hands, but are usually replaced when better Tier A or S options appear.
These weapons remain viable, but were pushed back due to the increasing importance of armor penetration in the current meta.
At the lowest tier are weapons that only perform well in specific situations or as temporary replacements.
The AK47 deserves a special mention: although ranked Tier C by statistics, it still has high potential in skilled hands due to its high per-bullet damage.
However, it requires strong precision and recoil control, making it less consistent compared to weapons like SCAR or UMP.
The next major game update, OB54, is scheduled for June 24, 2026. It is expected to introduce important adjustments to several key weapons.
According to leaked advanced server information, buffs are coming for AK47, MP40, M590, and M82B, along with general adjustments to assault rifle armor penetration. This could shift the meta again and reduce gaps between current tiers.
