Wildcard continues evolving within the Action + Collectible Card Game (CCAG) genre, and its new Alpha 5 version sharpens the focus on clearer matches, fairer combat, and smoother mechanics between players.
In Wildcard, two teams of two players compete in arenas, choosing champions with unique abilities and building decks that summon creatures during combat. This mix of third-person action and strategy has gained traction in the competitive scene, and Alpha 5 introduces updates that target the core gameplay experience.
The update introduces the Chronos arena, designed to reduce excessive use of vents and encourage more direct engagements. Launchpad visuals were also updated, and their distance was adjusted to make movement choices more meaningful.
Now the start of each match is more balanced. The new Match Flow system synchronizes player loading to prevent one team from gaining an early edge. It includes phases like the VS screen and a short pre-game prep before the actual fight.
A new Lobby system was also added, allowing players to create private matches with friends—a key feature for active communities and tournament play.
The new KO Recap feature shows where the damage came from after you're knocked out, helping players better understand each situation.
Movement bugs, ability issues, and control problems were also addressed. Player speed near the core was reduced to prevent abuse in key map areas.
Each champion received changes that directly impact their playstyle. For example, Locke now fires faster but deals less damage, and his special ability is more efficient but with reduced range. Ragna, Neva, and Bolgar were also reworked with animation tweaks, cooldown changes, and refined mechanics.
Summoned creatures were also adjusted. Some, like Shortfuse, had their damage doubled, while others like Punks and Shooticrue now cost more mana. The goal is to balance low-cost cards with their impact.
The goalie, a key defensive unit for each team, now behaves more aggressively and reacts better. With new attack patterns, wider damage range, and smarter targeting, they’re expected to play a bigger role in each match.
Wildcard Alpha 5 shows the game is constantly evolving, aiming to deliver a fair, dynamic, and competitive experience.
With new tools, a fresh arena, and clearer combat, this version opens a new chapter for those following its development.
