How to Get the Tadpole in Subnautica 2 – Early Guide

The Tadpole makes exploration in Subnautica 2 much easier. It can dive to greater depths, illuminate dark areas, carry equipment, and move much faster than the Wakemaker.

What you need to bring

• Survival Multitool
• Scanner
• Air Bladder
• Distraction Flares
• Extra food and water
• Spare Battery
• Dash + Seaskimmer Biomod (unlocked at the Biolab)

How to unlock the Tadpole early

1. Welcome Center (First fragment)

Travel to the Welcome Center and swim 80 meters south until you reach the cliff drop-off. Descend using the Wakemaker and Seaskimmer. Scan the intact Tadpole among the wreckage.

2. Ruby’s Blackbox (Second fragment)

Northeast of the Lifepod (about 400 meters) you will find Ruby’s Blackbox and another Tadpole inside a bone structure. Use flares or the Multitool to distract enemies.

3. Old Habitat (Third fragment)

North of the Lifepod, near Camp One. The last Tadpole is on the northern side of the camp.

Once you scan all three fragments, you will unlock the full blueprint.

How to craft the Tadpole

You will need a Moonpool, a Vehicle Fabricator, and a Tadpole Dock.

• Vehicle Fabricator: 1x Titanium Ingot, 1x Copper Ingot, 2x Glass
• Tadpole Dock: 2x Titanium Ingot, 1x Silver Ingot, 2x Copper Wire
• Tadpole: 2x Titanium Ingot, 1x Glass, 1x System Chip, 1x Power Cell

You can craft it in the Vehicle Fabricator at your base.
