Hollow Knight Simple Keys Guide: Locations and Doors

On your adventure through Hallownest, the Simple Keys in Hollow Knight are fundamental items to unlock new areas and secret services. If you are wondering where to find them and what exactly they are used for, you have come to the right place.

Location of the Simple Keys in Hollow Knight

To get your hands on these valuable items, you will have to thoroughly explore different corners of the map and save some money. These are the locations of the keys:

• Sly's Shop: The most direct way to get the first one is by buying it. Sly sells it in his shop in the town of Dirtmouth for 950 Geo.

• City of Tears: You will find another one very close to the stag station located to the northwest. Head to the huge room full of platforms and flying soldier bugs with spears; the key awaits you in the northeasternmost area.

• Ancient Basin: It is located near the area where you get the Monarch Wings. To obtain it, you will have to enter the corpse of a weird bug species.

• Colosseum of Fools (Pale Lurker): The fourth key was introduced in the Godmaster DLC. To get it, you must access a secret area hidden behind the Colosseum of Fools (by breaking a wall) and defeat the mini-boss known as the Pale Lurker.

Which doors do the Simple Keys open?

Once you have these items in your inventory, it's time to put them to use. With them, you can access the following 4 locked areas:

• Cemetery NPC (Dirtmouth): Go all the way to the right from Dirtmouth, crossing the cemetery. You will unlock a new NPC (Jiji) who, in exchange for a Rancid Egg, will summon your shade if you die. It is a very useful mechanic to recover your Geo without taking risks.

• Access to the Royal Waterways: Use your key to open the hatch that connects the City of Tears area directly with the dark Royal Waterways.

• Pleasure House: Located to the left of the King's Station, this door gives you access to the Pleasure House. This is where Millibelle hides after robbing you; it's your perfect opportunity to strike her shell and recover all your money.

• Godseeker's Sarcophagus: In the Junk Pit area (located deep within the Royal Waterways), you will find a large sarcophagus. Use the fourth key to open it, free the Godseeker, and gain access to the demanding Godmaster DLC.
