Epic Games Store Free Games for September 2026: Astrea and Mechabellum

Epic Games Store is offering two free games this week: Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles and Mechabellum. Both are available at no cost until October 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET. Anyone who claims them during that period keeps them permanently in their library.

What Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles Is

Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles is developed by Little Leo Games and published by Akupara Games. It is a roguelike that replaces the usual card deck with dice. Players choose one of 6 Oracles, each with their own dice pools and distinct abilities. In every run a collection is built from a pool of more than 350 dice, and individual die faces can be modified to control the actions that can appear on a given roll. The central system is Purification and Corruption. Purification can damage enemies or heal the Oracle. Corruption can hurt the player or heal enemies, but it also triggers certain abilities, so deliberately taking Corruption hits becomes part of the strategy. The game had a brief 24-hour window on Epic in December 2024. This time the available period is a full seven days.

Mechabellum and Pre-Battle Planning

The second free game is Mechabellum, developed by Game River and published by Dreamhaven. It is a tactical auto-battler in which most of the decisions are made before combat begins. Before each round units are selected, the formation is arranged, and the mechs are customized for specific roles. Once the round starts, the army fights automatically. The main element is the counter-building loop: the opponent’s units are observed and the army composition and upgrades are adjusted between rounds to exploit their weaknesses. Simply stacking the most powerful units rarely works on its own. The game includes 1v1, 2v2, and four-player free-for-all modes. Rift Mode adds shifting rules between rounds to prevent any single strategy from dominating. This is Mechabellum’s first appearance as an Epic Games Store giveaway.

Two Different Games in the Same Week

Astrea is aimed at players who enjoy building systems and finding dice combinations across multiple runs. Mechabellum is aimed at players who prefer reading the opponent and adapting army composition on the fly. Claiming both costs nothing and covers different strategic play styles. Astrea previously appeared on Epic for a single day. The extended window this time makes it easier to claim. Mechabellum, for its part, has maintained a presence in the auto-battler genre since its full release. Both games must be claimed before 11:00 AM ET on October 1, 2026. Once claimed they remain in the Epic library even after the promotion ends. It is not necessary to download them immediately.

What Comes After October 1

Epic has already confirmed the next pair of free games. System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster from Nightdive Studios and Buried Stars from LINE Games Corporation will be available starting October 1. The System Shock 2 remaster includes improved character and weapon models, widescreen support, frame rates up to 144 FPS, and cross-platform co-op. Buried Stars is a psychological visual novel with detective elements set in a collapsed building and social media communication between survivors. Epic is also running its Epic Savings sale through October 8, with discounts that include Detroit: Become Human at 80% off and Battlefield V Definitive Edition at 90% off, among others.
