Fortnite Save the World Free: Date and Arrival on Switch 2

After years of waiting, Epic Games has made the final decision: Fortnite Save the World will be free starting April 16, 2026. How the transition to free-to-play will work

Starting April 16, Save the World will no longer require the purchase of starter packs. Epic Games paused sales on March 11 to adjust the game's economy and ensure a stable transition to the free model.

Current players and founders have not been forgotten. As a show of gratitude for their loyalty, they will receive a compensation package including:

• Superchargers to power up equipment.
• Recruitment Vouchers.
• Bonus Gold for the weekly store.

Compatible platforms and the debut on Nintendo Switch 2

One of the most impactful pieces of news is the confirmation of Fortnite Save the World for Nintendo Switch 2. While the original Switch lacks the power to run this mode, its successor will allow players to enjoy the full base-defense experience on the go.

The confirmed platforms for the free launch are:

• Consoles: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
• PC: Available through the Epic Games Store.
• Cloud: NVIDIA GeForce Now, Amazon Luna, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

It is important to note that, for now, native versions for iOS and Android will still lack Save the World support due to technical limitations on mobile devices.

Community pre-registration rewards

Epic Games has launched a pre-registration campaign with global milestones. If the community reaches the set goals, all registrants will unlock exclusive items for their inventory:

2. 700,000 registrations: Kyle Spray.
3. 1,000,000 registrations: The Snow Strike hero for free in Save the World mode.
