Why We Chose Aave as the Engine Behind the OLA Wallet

To pay a yield on your savings the traditional way, you basically need to be a bank: licenses, a trading desk, a giant and hugely expensive operation. Or you promise a fixed rate and pray you can deliver on it. Neither option scales well, and both ask you to trust blindly. DeFi lets us skip all that: we plug your deposits into a global, automated credit market where your money earns yield because real people are paying interest on it, and you can audit the whole thing on-chain whenever you want.

Now for the obvious question: within DeFi, why Aave and not any other protocol? Choosing the backend that runs the community's money is the most important engineering decision we've made, and I want to walk you through the reasons one by one.

1. Security

Aave is one of the very few protocols that can point to more than ten audits from the industry's most serious firms (OpenZeppelin, Trail of Bits, Sigma Prime, Certora, among others) since v3 launched in 2022. Certora brings formal verification into the mix, which means mathematically proving that the code does exactly what it claims to do. On top of all that there's a Safety Module, a backstop fund financed by people who stake Aave's token to cover potential shortfalls, and one of the largest bug bounty programs in the industry.

No code is infallible, and further down I'll tell you about the one real scare this year. But in terms of the sheer number of expert eyes reviewing every line, Aave is still at the top.

2. Volume and Liquidity

In 2026 Aave crossed one trillion (!!) dollars in cumulative loan volume, the first DeFi protocol to hit that mark. It's the largest on-chain credit market that exists, with several billion dollars deposited at any given moment and fee revenue that's several times larger than its closest competitor's.

Why does volume matter to me, when all I want is for your USDC to earn yield quietly? Because deep liquidity means that, under normal conditions, you deposit and withdraw almost instantly. The more money sitting in the pool, the less friction there is getting in and out. For a savings product, being able to pull your money out whenever you feel like it matters just as much as the yield itself.

3. Track Record

Aave has been running since 2020, and its earlier version, ETHLend, since 2017. It survived every crypto apocalypse of the last few years: the Terra/LUNA collapse, the FTX implosion, the temporary USDC depeg during the Silicon Valley Bank crisis. In every one of those episodes, people who had stablecoins deposited never lost their principal.

And since we're at it, let's say it all. In April 2026 there was an attack on a protocol called Kelp. The attackers exploited a Kelp bridge, stole a restaking token called rsETH, and used it as collateral inside Aave to borrow against. Aave's code was never touched; the problem came in through compromised collateral from outside the protocol. The result was around 200 million dollars in bad debt, concentrated in that exotic asset and on the Ethereum network, and many depositors withdrew just to be safe while things got sorted out.

Two things matter here for those of us saving in dollars. First, that hit happened in the market for a volatile, niche asset, far from the stablecoin pools and far from Base. A USDC deposit was never exposed to that debt. Second, this is exactly the kind of situation v3's containment tools exist for: they isolate each market from the rest, with the Safety Module acting as a cushion. The episode left a real lesson about the risks of restaking tokens and about how interconnected DeFi is, and we'd rather tell you about it than hide it. We deliberately chose the most boring, solid corner of the system, precisely so we wouldn't get caught up in that kind of mess.

4. Accessibility (Networks)

Aave v3 lives on more than twenty different networks: Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and many more. That multi-network presence helps us for two reasons. It lets us pick the network that best fits our users, which in our case is Base, because of the dirt-cheap gas fees and the on/off ramps. And it lets us expand to another network tomorrow without changing engines. Same backend, available wherever our people are.

5. Products (The Vaults)

This is where Aave stopped being just "a place to deposit" and became a toolkit for builders like us.

Its Earn Vaults follow the ERC-4626 standard, which in plain terms means they integrate cleanly and neatly with applications like ours. And in July 2026 Aave launched Stable Vaults, a product literally designed for companies that want to bring dollar yield into a consumer app. They convert Aave's variable rate into a fixed rate for the end user, handle rebalancing and cross-chain operations automatically, and the operator keeps whatever yield comes in above the fixed rate it promises as revenue.

6. Where We Add Value

And here's where it all comes together. Ola's role has always been distribution and the value we add to the community. That's what we're good at, that's our game. Building an audited, deeply liquid, multi-network credit engine from scratch, one that's been tested through crises, would take us years and millions of dollars, and it would still end up worse than what Aave already has running.

Standing on top of that infrastructure is a massive advantage. And on top of that, Aave is open infrastructure: community-governed, transparent, and composable. No company can pull down the shutters one day and leave you without your money. We put our energy where we really add value, which is games, community, and distribution across Latin America, and we rent the best rails in the world to move your money and make it earn yield.

Choosing Aave meant choosing not to reinvent the financial wheel, so we could move faster on what's ours. You put in your USDC, DeFi's most battle-tested engine makes it earn yield, and we add on top the one thing we do better than anyone else: turning all of that into a game worth playing.
