Ghost of Yōtei introduces a combat system based on 14 main weapons divided into four categories: Melee, Ranged, Thrown, and Quickfire.
Each one has its own unlock method and is tied to specific missions, regions, or characters.
This guide explains how to get them all and what role they play in Atsu’s arsenal.

Melee Weapons

These five weapons are mainly obtained through main or mythic missions.
They are essential for close combat and can be upgraded in Atsu’s father’s forge.

  • Wolf Blade: this is the game’s starting weapon, obtained after completing the prologue “Dawn of Vengeance.” It’s ideal for learning parry mechanics and basic combos.
  • Dual Katana – Unlocked in the mission “The Path of the Dual Katana” (Yōtei Plains, Act 1).
  • Odachi – Sensei Mission “Storm of Steel” (Tokachi Range, Act 2).
  • Yari (Spear) – Main mission “The Path of the Yari” (Shizunai Forests, Act 1).
  • Kusarigama (Chain and Sickle) – Side mission “Shadow of the Chain” (Oshima Coast, Act 2).

Ranged Weapons

These are purchased or unlocked through missions. They use special ammo or crafting materials.

  • Hankyu (Half Bow) – Buy from Ran at the Shadow of Yōtei Inn (200 mon, Act 1).
  • Yumi (Long Bow) – Mission “The Old Inn” (Act 2).
  • Teppō (Tanegashima Rifle) – Side mission “Fire from the West” (Oshima, Act 2).
  • Kunai Bow – Bounty hunt for Crow Genzo (Blue Flower Cemetery, Act 2).
📌 Quick Tip: completing bounty hunts grants coins (mon) and clues about unique weapons. The ones from Crow Genzo and Tokachi often provide rare materials.

Thrown Weapons

These don’t require ammo and are useful for controlling groups or fast enemies.

  • Kunai – Obtained during the combat tutorial.
  • Smoke Bombs – Mission “Wolf’s Mist” (Shizunai Forests, Act 1).
  • Explosive Arrows – Mission “Fire on the Coast” (Oshima, Act 2).

Quickfire Weapons

Instant-use tools unlocked through missions, altars, or merchants.

  • Metsubushi (Smoke Cloud) – Defeat Crow Genzo (Tokachi, Act 2).
  • Kaginawa Hook – Mission “Hook of Destiny” (Yōtei Plains, Act 1).
  • Fire Pistol – Buy at Crow’s Inn (Oshima, Act 2).
  • Shuriken – Mythic tale “Storm of Leaves” (Shizunai Forests, Act 2).
  • Phantom Smoke – Collect 30 of the 61 Reflection Altars (Act 3).

The Metsubushi blinds enemies, allowing repositioning in combat.

Tips to Get Them Faster

  1. Prioritize Sensei missions and mythic tales (Odachi, Shuriken, Kusarigama).
  2. Explore inns and camps for coins and recipes.
  3. Use the spyglass to locate altars (Phantom Smoke).
  4. Reach Act 2 to unlock key regions like Oshima and Tokachi.
  5. Switch weapons depending on enemies: the Weapon Alignment system rewards tactical play.

Mastering the weapons in Ghost of Yōtei is essential for progressing through Atsu’s story and adapting combat to each enemy.
Mixing katana, bows, and quick tools offers a balance between stealth, precision, and brute strength.
