During the official PlayStation event, Sony and Santa Monica Studio announced that a remake version of the original God of War trilogy is currently in development. This project is part of the franchise’s ongoing activities, which recently celebrated its twentieth anniversary since the release of the first installment in 2005.

The God of War saga is one of the most emblematic series in the video game industry, centered on Kratos, a Spartan warrior who challenges the gods of Greek mythology and, in later installments, the gods of the Norse pantheon. The original games were released during the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 era, and the trilogy consisting of God of War (2005), God of War II (2007), and God of War III (2010) became a key pillar of the brand’s narrative identity.

Although some of these titles have received remasters or ports (for example, God of War III Remastered for PlayStation 4), there had not been, until recently, a fully rebuilt version of the three main games.
During an episode of State of Play broadcast on February 12, 2026, Sony confirmed that a remake of the original God of War trilogy is in development. The project was announced with a brief teaser featuring a logo, but no gameplay footage or additional technical details were shown at the time of the confirmation.

The studio responsible for the development is Santa Monica Studio, the same team behind the franchise’s most recent titles (God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarök). The developers indicated that the project is still in its early stages.
At this time, the official information available is limited, and the following points have been confirmed:
The remake announcement was made alongside the release of another title in the saga titled God of War: Sons of Sparta, a game available on PlayStation 5 since February 12, 2026. This title is not part of the original trilogy but rather a new side project exploring the story of a younger Kratos in a side-scrolling format.
Since the trilogy remake is in an early stage, there is currently no official release date, nor specific details regarding technical improvements, updated combat systems, or voice casting. Santa Monica Studio has asked fans of the saga for patience.

Information about the remake remains limited for now, and future announcements are expected to provide more specific details regarding development progress, content scope, and release platforms.
