In a historic twist, Microsoft has announced a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved for PlayStation 5, marking the official debut of the Halo franchise on Sony consoles.

During the Halo World Championships 2025, Halo: Campaign Evolved was revealed as a complete reimagining of the 2001 classic, rebuilt from scratch using Unreal Engine 5. This version will launch not only on Xbox Series X|S and PC, but also on PS5—breaking decades of exclusivity.
“Halo is about connection. We want a new generation to fall in love with this saga on their preferred platforms,” said Damon Conn, executive producer at Halo Studios.

The decision to bring Halo to PS5 reflects Microsoft’s broader strategy: maximizing the reach of its intellectual properties in an ecosystem where exclusivity no longer guarantees growth. With the rise of services like Game Pass and the consolidation of cross-play, the focus has shifted from “selling consoles” to “winning audiences.”
Additionally, following its acquisition of studios like Activision Blizzard, Microsoft faces regulatory pressure to demonstrate openness and fair competition. Bringing Halo to PS5 not only expands its player base but reinforces its narrative of multiplatform inclusion.

Halo’s arrival on PS5 isn’t just a win for PlayStation fans. It’s a clear signal that Xbox is embracing a more open, multiplatform strategy—just as it did with Gears of War and Forza Horizon. The message is loud and clear: icons are no longer tied to a single console.
