Highguard features a gameplay system based on competitive raids that combine real-time resource management with objective-based tactical combat. Each match is structured around critical stages that demand immediate coordination and a solid understanding of the character classes, known as Wardens.

This guide explains the core Raid mechanics, the available roles, and the strategic use of the game’s primary resource: Vesper.

The two phases that define each match

The Raid unfolds in two clearly differentiated phases. Each one serves a specific purpose and directly influences the outcome of the encounter.

Preparation and looting phase

The match begins with a 2-minute period dedicated to map exploration. During this time, players should focus on opening chests to obtain gear and collect Vesper, the main resource of the mode.

In this initial phase, direct combat is not a priority. The focus should be on:

  • Securing a mount to improve mobility.
  • Increasing gear rarity before the first engagement.
  • Identifying areas with higher-value chests.
  • Avoiding unnecessary fights that provide no early advantage.

Proper preparation allows teams to enter the assault phase with better tools and greater tactical flexibility.

Assault phase

The second phase begins when one team captures the Shieldbreaker, the central artifact of the Raid mode. From that moment on, the conflict escalates into a direct attack on the enemy base.

During the assault, team coordination becomes decisive. While some players pressure the opposing base, others must secure their own defenses to prevent counterattacks. A successful advance depends equally on offensive execution and the ability to hold key positions.

Warden roles: complementary functions

Each Warden fulfills a specific role within the team. Raid effectiveness does not rely on stacking a single class, but on maintaining a functional balance between different specializations.

Assault
Wardens focused on direct combat. They lead engagements and are the first to make contact with the enemy during the assault.

Defensive
Specialized in base protection. Their primary role is to safeguard generators and key structures, maintaining territorial control while the rest of the team operates.

Recon
They play a key role during exploration. Recon Wardens locate high-rarity chests, detect enemy movements, and provide constant strategic information.

Support
Responsible for maintaining team shields. Their presence increases survivability in prolonged fights and is essential both in defense and offense.

Destruction
A role with an exclusive function: they are the only Wardens capable of quickly demolishing reinforced walls. Without them, assaults on well-defended bases become slow and predictable.

Vesper and its impact on strategy

Vesper is not merely a trading currency. Proper management directly affects the pace of the Raid and the team’s offensive capabilities.

In addition to being used for upgrades, Vesper can be spent at vending machines located throughout the map. These machines allow players to obtain the Domesplitter, an item that significantly facilitates assaults on enemy bases and reduces the time required to break through key defenses.

Efficient Vesper management makes it possible to convert an economic advantage into a tangible tactical advantage.

Highguard’s Raid mode rewards planning and teamwork. Understanding the two phases of each match, properly assigning Warden roles, and managing Vesper strategically are essential elements for executing effective assaults and maintaining solid defenses.
