The future of MapleStory

Starting with the launch of MapleStory N in May 2025, the MapleStory Universe has entered a new phase of development led by Nexpace, Nexon’s web3 division.

With the goal of expanding access and adapting to current player needs, a roadmap has been set that includes more than a dozen mobile and web-based experiences for early 2026.

MapleStory N: A New Beginning

MapleStory N is the first major game within the MapleStory Universe ecosystem. It retains the original side-scrolling format but integrates blockchain technology, allowing players to exchange items as NFTs. These assets are hosted on Henesys, a network built on Avalanche, and can be traded in a dedicated marketplace.

Playing Without Depending on a PC

One of the main challenges identified by the team was the reliance on a desktop client, which can be a barrier for those without time or high-performance devices.

To address this, Nexpace is developing tools that will allow players to perform key game actions through browsers or mobile devices, without the need to download large files.

Available features will include character progression, item enhancement, and quest completion. The first web application is expected by late July or early August, focused on item enhancement.

Over a Dozen Projects in Progress

The team has confirmed that more than 12 new applications are in development. Some will allow item management, quest progression, or even hiring other players to level up on behalf of the user.

Additionally, external developer participation is being encouraged, and a developer hub will be launched to facilitate the creation of tools connected to the game universe.

To encourage participation, 80% of the NXPC token supply has been allocated as rewards for contributors who add value to the ecosystem.

Measures Against System Misuse

With the introduction of assets with real-world value, the team has faced challenges related to cheating and automation. To address this, three main measures were implemented: a 30-hour withdrawal delay for items, the isolation of the Henesys network from other blockchains, and an asset recovery system for sanctioned accounts.

These decisions aim to protect the integrity of the game and ensure a fair environment for players.

A Growing Ecosystem

Since its launch, MapleStory N has shown strong adoption. In its first weeks, hundreds of thousands of NFTs, testnet wallets, and unique registrations were created. The use of NXPC tokens during the playtests reflected a high level of engagement and real utility within the game.

With these new tools, Nexpace aims to expand how players interact with the MapleStory Universe. It’s no longer just about playing from a PC, but about participating from anywhere and across different formats. This evolution is intended to help more people stay connected to the world they helped build from the beginning.
