DOS Labs has officially launched its own subnet on the Avalanche network. This technical infrastructure will serve as the foundation for its Web3 gaming ecosystem, including the upcoming battle royale title MetaDOS, aiming to provide an accessible and frictionless experience for both players and developers.

Infrastructure focused on gameplay experience

The DOS Labs subnet was built to overcome common technical barriers in blockchain environments. Its design enables operations with no gas fees and high-speed transactions, allowing real-time matches without interruptions or additional costs for users.

Beyond its technical performance, the subnet includes developer-focused tools such as SDKs for game engines like Unity and Unreal, and support for decentralized identity through ORE ID.

These tools facilitate the integration of Web2 games into the Web3 ecosystem without significantly altering their core mechanics. The subnet ecosystem also includes features like a built-in wallet, block explorer, and digital asset marketplace.

MetaDOS: a Battle Royale with innovative mechanics

MetaDOS will be the first major title hosted on this subnet. It’s a battle royale game with a unique twist: time is the primary resource.

Instead of merely surviving other players, each participant starts with a set amount of time that decreases while they're in the match. The only way to extend playtime is by eliminating opponents or collecting resources on the map.

Key features of MetaDOS:

  • Matches with up to 200 players.
  • Modes: Solo, Duo, and Squad.
  • Economy focused on cosmetics: skins, animations, music, and art.
  • Available on PC, mobile, and soon on consoles.
  • Free-to-play with optional NFT purchases.

MetaDOS is designed to appeal to both traditional gamers and those interested in digital asset ownership.

Studio alliance for narrative interoperability

One strategic element of the ecosystem is the collaboration among multiple game studios. DOS Labs has formed an alliance with developers like Heroes & Empires, Imba Games, and Suga to bring characters and story elements from their respective games into MetaDOS.

This paves the way for interoperable gaming experiences, where in-game elements can retain relevance and continuity across multiple titles.

Funding to strengthen the ecosystem

In April 2024, DOS Labs secured a $2.45 million investment in a funding round backed by firms like Kangaroo Capital, AZA Ventures, Brainbox, among others.

The funds will support ongoing development of MetaDOS, expansion of the subnet, and the consolidation of an ecosystem aimed at attracting more developers and gaming communities into Web3.

Outlook

With its infrastructure now live and MetaDOS in advanced development, DOS Labs is committed to building a technically robust, interoperable gaming ecosystem that also appeals to mainstream gamers.

The strategy goes beyond addressing technical needs — it’s about gradual Web3 adoption through accessible and engaging gaming experiences.
