Cambria brings with it a network of elements that will drive the economy within the game, starting with the Cores, the second NFT collection from Cambria, which will be launched on December 20, 2024. This collection includes 10,000 NFTs that allow players to directly own and issue new companions, skins, loot boxes, and other highly demanded items within the game.
In Cambria, the traditional web2 microtransactions model is set aside—yes, that model where the studio sells all the cosmetic and improvement items within the game, like skins and companions, to players. Cambria has opted for a more avant-garde model where players who own Cores will create these assets. Core holders can earn shards that are burned to mint new skins and companions, and they choose how to spend those shards.
As skins are launched, players who have the necessary fragments will decide whether or not to spend on the released skin, fostering a competitive market driven by supply and demand.
Within the game, Cores are magical crucibles collected by the Magus Association that convert the ethereal energies of New Cambria into fragments. Cores are classified into four levels:
Once revealed, players can use the Cores to generate fragments, depending on the number and level of Cores they have. The Cores will be revealed one week after minting.
Shards are a resource in Cambria that Core holders can earn and use to mint skins and summon companions. These shards are associated with a wallet and cannot be sold or transferred. Currently, there are two types of shards, and Cores generate both types:
Companions are intelligent and adaptable followers that offer unique utility in the game, such as bank space, automated tasks, and focus point recovery. These companions are NFTs that can be traded. They start with six main archetypes: Human, Feline, Avian, Griffin, Wyvern, and Gargoyle. Each companion archetype has a Rarity Index, which determines the likelihood of summoning certain archetypes.
Companions can be hidden through the in-game display settings, and it is not necessary for them to follow the player for their benefits to be active; you can leave the pets on your island.
The only way to create new companions in Cambria is through "Companion Summoning." Players who own Cores can use their fragments to summon a random companion, which is minted directly into their companion NFT collection. They can then trade that companion on the market with other players. Companions are visible both in the game and on the player's profile on the Cambria web or mobile app. Future ecosystem expansions will also include companions.
The cost of summoning companions (in fragments) uses a real-time dynamic pricing system called VRGDA (Variable Rate Gradual Dutch Auction). This means that the price to issue new companions starts high and decreases over time, aiming to match the growth of the game. In other words, the cost of shards to summon companions gradually decreases, allowing players to create more companions with the same amount of Cores, as the growing demand from new players requires higher Core productivity.
The VRGDA also adjusts to demand, increasing or decreasing prices in real time based on whether sales are ahead or behind the current schedule. To avoid negative impacts on game growth or balance due to significant demand increases, we may adjust the VRGDA rate to maintain balance. In the future, these game design adjustments, like the VRGDA rate, will be managed through decentralized governance and will require proposals that implement rate adjustment limits, cooling-off periods, etc.
Skins are obtained in two ways:
Keys have a fixed cost to mint and form part of a shared pool. Shard holders obtain these keys at random, depending on the amount they have. This creates a mini-game where players must decide whether to keep their shards or spend them on limited edition skins that interest them, which they can trade or collect.
Initially, skins will only apply to companions, but in future updates, more elements such as equipment, weapons, emoticons, stickers, and visual effects will be added. Having higher-level Cores (T2-T4) allows access to a rare skin pool that cannot be obtained otherwise.
Collectors can unlock badges and other collectibles based on their collections. Additionally, they have a collector score based on shard usage over time, granting them voting privileges in a player committee that decides on new community collections.
Both the use and accumulation of shards will increase players' scores in the game, a crucial factor for the airdrop. So, if you're interested in this magical world and its economy, now is the perfect time to start in Cambria.
