Complete Guide to Getting and Customizing Your Sidekicks in Fortnite

The Sidekicks have arrived in Fortnite as new customizable in-game companions. They work like “pets” that follow the player across different modes, including Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, and Festival. They don’t affect gameplay (only your squad can see them, they don’t take damage) but they do react to the world, can perform emotes, and can even be petted.

1. How to get your Sidekicks

There are several ways to obtain Sidekicks: the first one is included with the Battle Pass, while others rotate through the Item Shop.

2. Step by step: how to unlock and equip your first Sidekick

If you choose Peels (from the Battle Pass):

1. Go to Battle Pass > select Premium (950 V-Bucks).
2. Peels unlocks automatically upon purchase.
3. Open Locker > Sidekicks tab (new section).
4. Drag the Sidekick into your loadout and save.

If you buy it from the Shop:

1. Search for “Sidekicks” in the Item Shop.
2. Buy the one you prefer.
3. It will then appear in the Locker.

Only one Sidekick can be equipped at a time, though you can own several and switch between them.

3. Customization: base appearance and accessories

The base appearance is chosen once per Sidekick. It’s a permanent choice, so pick carefully.

Steps to customize the base appearance (irreversible):

1. Locker > Sidekicks > select the character.
2. Click Customize Appearance (pencil icon).
3. Configure the available categories:

When finished, confirm with LOCK-IN (irreversible).

Additional customization (can be changed any time):

• Name: Locker > Sidekicks > Three-dot menu > Edit name (max. 16 characters).
• Accessories: caps, collars, scarves, hoodies, and alternate styles.

4. How to earn Sidekick Points (SP)

SP are special experience points that unlock cosmetic rewards for Sidekicks. Earn them by playing with a Sidekick equipped in Battle Royale, Zero Build, LEGO Fortnite, Festival, and Save the World.

How to earn SP:

• They’re granted automatically as you gain XP in matches.
• The longer the match lasts, the more points you get.
• Short modes or Creative don’t grant SP.

Rewards by level (example with Peels):

There are also special missions in Quests > Sidekick Quests (for example, “Play 60 minutes with Peels”).

Suggestion: longer modes like LEGO Fortnite help you level faster. The first match grants five free rewards.
