Split II's arrival in Valorant Console brings back one of Riot's most tactical battlegrounds, now featuring adjustments that preserve the essence of the original map while introducing changes to its layout and the way rounds unfold. Its design continues to reward coordination, smart ability usage, and, above all, control of key areas before attempting to secure either bomb site.

Unlike maps where engagements often take place in wide open spaces, Split II concentrates much of the action in narrow corridors, tight angles, and elevated positions. While many team compositions remain viable, three agents stand out for the impact they can have on both attack and defense: Cypher, Omen, and Killjoy.

Cypher: The specialist in tracking every enemy movement

On a map where flanks and rotations can determine the outcome of a round, Cypher remains one of the most reliable Sentinels for maintaining map control without constantly exposing himself.

His greatest strength lies in his ability to monitor multiple areas simultaneously through his gadgets. Trapwires detect enemy advances and force opponents to either reveal their position or spend valuable utility destroying them, while his Spycam provides constant information on important corridors and entrances without requiring Cypher to leave his position.

On Split II, these tools are especially valuable for securing Mid, one of the most contested areas of the map. Maintaining vision over this section significantly limits the opposing team's rotation options and allows defenders to react much faster to any attempt at splitting an attack.

Beyond gathering information, Cypher also helps buy valuable time. Every second an opponent spends destroying a Trapwire or searching for a Spycam can be enough for the rest of the team to rotate and reinforce the threatened site.

Omen takes full advantage of Split II's tight spaces

If there is one Controller capable of making the most of Split II's design, it is Omen. His toolkit is built to manipulate enemy vision and create uncertainty throughout every round, making him especially effective on a map where firefights often occur through narrow corridors and multiple angles.

His long-range smokes can block critical sightlines before the attacking team executes a push or slow enemy advances while defending. By limiting the information available to opponents, Omen forces riskier decisions and makes it easier for his teammates to control strategic positions.

However, Omen's value goes beyond controlling sightlines. His teleportation abilities allow him to reposition quickly, reach elevated locations, or catch enemies off guard from unexpected angles, creating constant pressure even when the opposing team believes they have full control of a section of the map.

His ultimate ability also plays a major role on Split II. It enables him to rotate rapidly between bomb sites, gather information about enemy positions, or even force reactions that disrupt the opposing team's strategy during the most critical moments of a round.

Killjoy turns any bomb site into a fortress

When the objective is to hold a position for as long as possible, Killjoy remains one of the strongest picks in Valorant's agent roster. Her Turret automatically provides information about enemy movements and can force opponents to reveal their position before an engagement even begins. In addition, her Alarmbot detects enemies entering key areas and applies Vulnerable, making it easier for defenders to eliminate attackers quickly.

On Split II, where bomb site entrances are often funneled through narrow corridors, these tools are extremely effective at slowing down enemy executions. Even when her gadgets are destroyed, they have already served an important purpose by revealing the direction of the attack.

Her ultimate ability, Lockdown, continues to be one of the most influential abilities for defending or retaking a bomb site. The threat of being detained forces opponents to abandon key positions or spend valuable resources destroying the device before it activates, often changing the course of an entire round.

Mid control remains the highest priority

Regardless of agent selection, Split II maintains one of the defining characteristics that has always shaped the map: controlling Mid often determines the pace of the match.

Securing Mid opens multiple opportunities to split attacks, rotate more efficiently, and prevent defenders from committing all of their resources to a single bomb site. On the other hand, losing control of this area greatly limits strategic options and makes it easier for the opposing team to predict every movement. For this reason, many teams prioritize using abilities during the opening seconds of a round to secure Mid before committing to a full execute.

Coordination is equally important. Combining smokes, traps, reconnaissance abilities, and utility to delay enemy advances consistently produces better results than using each resource individually. On a tactical map like Split II, constant communication between teammates can make the difference between successfully holding a position and losing control of the site.

Which team composition works best on Split II?

Although there is no single lineup guaranteed to win every match, most balanced team compositions include one Sentinel, one Controller, one Initiator, and one or two Duelists. This setup provides the right balance between map control and the ability to execute coordinated attacks.

In that context, Cypher or Killjoy provide the security needed to defend positions and gather valuable information, while Omen delivers the utility required to deny enemy vision and create safer opportunities for teammates to enter bomb sites. Initiators complement this strategy by revealing enemy positions or weakening defensive setups before the push, while Duelists capitalize on the space created to secure eliminations.

Competitive play trends also show that Split continues to reward coordination and territorial control more than fast-paced executes or individual mechanical plays. Maintaining control of key areas consistently produces better results than relying on direct confrontations to win each round.
