January 2026 kicks off the annual release calendar with a varied lineup of video games spanning multiple genres and platforms. While it does not concentrate the year’s biggest blockbuster launches, the month brings together new titles, sequels, expansions, and relevant updates, aimed at console, PC, and mobile players alike.

RPGs, action games, simulators, and independent projects shape a diverse landscape that marks the beginning of the year for the industry.

A year opening with varied proposals

The first month of 2026 combines new releases with updated versions and expansions of well-known games. Among the highlighted titles are big-budget productions, adaptations of established franchises, and independent projects that broaden the available offering.

One of the most notable releases is The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon, arriving on January 15 for PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC. The title continues the saga’s tradition with an extensive narrative and a classic Japanese RPG approach.

On the same day, the optimized version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nintendo Switch 2 will launch, featuring technical improvements designed for the new hardware without altering the core structure of the social simulation.

Mid-month releases

Starting on January 16, the schedule expands with titles from different genres. Brokenlore: Unfollow will debut on PS5 and PC, offering a proposal focused on action and narrative.

A few days later, on January 20, MIO: Memories In Orbit will arrive, a space exploration adventure available across multiple platforms. That same day also marks the release of Cooking Simulator 2: Better Together on PC, a sequel that expands cooperative features and content from the original simulator.

Standout RPGs, sequels, and adaptations

January 22 stands out as one of the most relevant dates of the month. On that day, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be released for Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, incorporating graphical enhancements and additional content included in this edition.

That same day will also see the launch of Arknights: Endfield, a tactical RPG set to release on consoles, PC, and mobile devices.

Later, on January 23, the independent title Banquet For Fools will arrive on PC. On January 26, Highguard will debut, a free-to-play game focused on multiplayer action.

Final releases of the month

In the final stretch of January, on January 27, Rightfully, Beary Arms will launch for Xbox Series X|S and PC. One day later, on January 28, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin will arrive, an action-adventure game based on the popular anime, available on PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

The January 29 releases include Cairn, a climbing and survival simulator, and I Hate This Place, an independent title with a strong focus on exploration and narrative.

Finally, on January 30, the month will close with Code Vein 2, the sequel to the soulslike action RPG, available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Platforms and reach

January 2026 releases span a wide range of platforms. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC host most of the launches, although some titles will also be available on mobile devices.

This distribution reflects the industry’s ongoing trend toward multiplatform releases and updates tailored to new hardware generations.

Genre diversity

  • Narrative and action RPGs such as Trails Beyond the Horizon, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, and Code Vein 2.
  • Simulators and social experiences like Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch 2) and Cooking Simulator 2.
  • Action and adventure games such as The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin and Brokenlore: Unfollow.
  • Independent and experimental productions like Banquet For Fools and I Hate This Place.
  • Multiplayer and free-to-play titles such as Highguard.

January 2026 offers a solid start to the year for the video game industry, with a schedule that combines new releases, anticipated sequels, and relevant updates. While it does not feature the most high-profile launches of the year, the month provides enough options for different player profiles and marks the starting point of a calendar that will intensify in the months ahead.
