Climbing the ranks in League of Legends: Wild Rift requires more than getting kills. To advance in ranked play, players need to master their champions, take advantage of each match, and prioritize objectives such as turrets and dragons.

The key is to reduce mistakes, consistently gather resources, and make decisions that benefit the team. This guide covers practical strategies to improve performance and progress through ranked play.

1. Master a Small Champion Pool

One of the most practical ways to improve is to focus on two or three champions. Learning their abilities, matchups, and item builds makes it easier to make decisions quickly.

It is also helpful to establish a primary role and a secondary one. Champion selection should fit the team composition, especially when the team needs engage, crowd control, or magic damage.

2. Prioritize Objectives

Getting kills can provide gold and experience, but it does not guarantee victory. To capitalize on a favorable fight, the team should turn that advantage into a tangible reward.

  • Turrets: Open up the map and make rotations easier.
  • Dragons: Provide advantages for the team.
  • Rift Herald: Helps destroy structures.
  • Baron Nashor: Makes it easier to pressure lanes and attempt to close out the game.

It will not always be possible to secure an objective after every fight. Sometimes, the best decision is to recall, recover resources, or secure a minion wave.

3. Improve Farming and Wave Management

Consistently killing minions is essential for earning gold and buying items that increase a champion's damage, durability, or utility.

During the laning phase, players should avoid letting fights constantly interrupt their farming. Before leaving a lane to help an ally, they should consider whether the rotation is worth the minions they will miss.

It is also useful to learn when to push a wave and when to keep it close to their own turret. Before contesting a dragon or Baron Nashor, preparing nearby waves helps reduce pressure on allied structures.

4. Adapt Your Strategy to Each Role

Each role has different responsibilities. Understanding them helps prevent every player from trying to make the same play at the same time.

  • Baron Lane: Should maintain a stable lane, take favorable trades, and apply side-lane pressure when it is safe.
  • Jungle: Should clear camps, identify ganking opportunities, and coordinate neutral objectives.
  • Mid Lane: Needs to manage the wave and look for opportunities to roam to other lanes.
  • Dragon Lane (ADC): Should consistently earn gold and position correctly during fights.
  • Support: Should provide vision, protect allies, or engage fights depending on the team composition.

The best way to climb is not necessarily to switch roles, but to master the responsibilities of the assigned role and cooperate with teammates at decisive moments.

5. Avoid Unnecessary Deaths

Dying can mean losing gold, experience, and lane pressure. For this reason, one of the most effective ways to improve is to reduce deaths that provide no advantage to the team.

Players should check the minimap frequently and pay attention to enemies who disappear from their lanes. It is also important to avoid chasing a low-health champion into an area where enemy positions are unknown.

When a match starts poorly, the goal should be to limit the opposing team's advantage. Forcing fights to quickly recover lost kills can make the situation worse. Instead, gathering resources safely allows the team to wait for a favorable opportunity.

6. Make the Most of the Ranked System

Rank progression depends on the rules in effect for the current season. Riot Games announced ranked adjustments for 2026, including an energy system designed to recognize individual performance, positive behavior, and certain negative circumstances during matches.

This does not mean that a high score guarantees promotion. How rewards are applied depends on the current game version, so players should check the official patch notes for their installed update.

Additionally, playing more matches does not always mean climbing faster. If losses accumulate and frustration leads to worse decisions, it is better to take a break and return to ranked when it is easier to focus.

7. Build a Routine to Improve

Consistent improvement requires identifying recurring mistakes instead of blaming every loss on matchmaking or teammates' performance.

A simple routine can include three actions:

  1. Before playing: Choose a familiar champion, review their build, and set a specific goal.
  2. During the match: Check the minimap, prepare for objectives, and avoid unnecessary fights.
  3. After a loss: Identify one decision that could have been better, such as a late rotation or a fight started without sufficient resources.

There is no need to correct every mistake at once. Focusing on one mistake per session makes it easier to measure progress and develop more consistent habits.
