Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) continues to prove that it still has a highly active community. After returning to Steam in March 2026, Valve's classic shooter reached a new record of 68,231 concurrent players, highlighting the interest many users have in revisiting the original experience despite the existence of Counter-Strike 2.
The growth is particularly notable because the game has not received any new updates, while Valve remains focused on developing Counter-Strike 2.
The recent peak of 68,231 concurrent players marks the highest figure since the game's relaunch. It also represents a significant increase compared to late June, when the title had around 18,600 concurrent users.
Unlike other cases, this growth was not driven by special events or major announcements, suggesting that it reflects the community's natural interest in returning to the game.

Many players believe that CS:GO retains an identity that has not been fully replaced by Counter-Strike 2. Valve's decision to remove the game from Steam in 2023 generated considerable criticism, and since its return, thousands of users have come back to enjoy its maps, mechanics, and traditional gameplay pace.
Although Valve has confirmed that there will be no future updates for CS:GO, the title continues to attract a significant portion of the community.

CS:GO's success is also reflected in player reviews.
The game currently holds a 97% positive review score on Steam, while Counter-Strike 2 has a 82% positive rating in its recent reviews.
Part of the community continues to favor the classic gameplay experience, particularly following changes made to maps, weapons, and mechanics in Counter-Strike 2.

The return of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive demonstrates that classic games can still maintain an active community even years after being replaced.
While Counter-Strike 2 continues to lead the franchise's present, CS:GO's new record confirms that many players still value the original experience and that nostalgia remains one of the most powerful forces within the series.
