The Off The Grid team announced in their latest Dev Blog a series of adjustments to the in-match economy, coming with the next big update scheduled for October.
The goal is to increase strategic decision-making, give more purpose to mid and late game progress, and open the possibility of comebacks when players or squads are at a disadvantage.
According to the developers, the three points they aim to improve are:
In the previous update, the percentage of RIP retained upon death increased from 50% to 80%, and RIP drops on the ground were removed. Now, each elimination grants 500 RIP directly to the player’s inventory, reducing the gap between average players and top squads.
Developers confirmed that smaller support crates will always drop RIP, making it more viable to head to quieter areas to gather resources and revive teammates. This change seeks to avoid excessive randomness that could leave players with no money after opening several crates.
Rarity Distribution - Loot Crates | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Common | Uncommon | Rare | Epic | |
Old | 70% | 20% | 10% | 0% |
Early-game | 59% | 40% | 1% | 0% |
Mid-game | 20% | 63% | 17% | 0% |
Late-game | 0% | 60% | 40% | 0% |
High-rarity loadouts will see an increase in cost. This will force players to decide whether to call in a weapon earlier or wait longer to access stronger gear. The intention is to make full epic loadouts arrive more progressively, requiring more missions and crates.
Loadout Cost | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Common | Uncommon | Rare | Epic | |
Old | 1,575 | 2,340 | 3,195 | 4,540 |
New | 1,900 | 3,050 | 4,500 | 6,250 |
With these changes, players respawning late will find higher rarity loot in crates, offering better options beyond just the starter loadout or retrieving their body.
Rarity Distribution - Advanced Loot | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Common | Uncommon | Rare | Epic | |
Old | 12% | 48% | 32% | 8% |
Early-game | 30% | 55% | 15% | 1% |
Mid-game | 0% | 55% | 35% | 10% |
Late-game | 0% | 30% | 50% | 20% |
Each match will feature two high-tier loot zones with higher chances of rare items. These areas will offer better rewards but also higher risks due to player traffic.
With these changes, the Off The Grid team aims to make time spent on Teardrop Island more strategic, offering more alternatives for different playstyles. The update will be available in October, and the developers confirmed they will continue to adjust the system based on community feedback.
