Pokémon Legends: Z-A: All Confirmed Mega Evolutions

The return of Mega Evolutions is one of the most significant features announced for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the upcoming title in the main Pokémon series developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company.

This mechanic, originally introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, allows certain Pokémon to temporarily transform into a more powerful form during battles. Mega Evolutions once again play a central role in the battle system.

What Mega Evolutions Are and How They Work

Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations that certain Pokémon can activate during battle.

For this transformation to occur, two conditions must be met:

• The trainer must possess a Mega Stone linked to the Pokémon.
• The Pokémon must have its specific stone.

Once activated, Mega Evolution triggers several important changes during battle:

• Significant stat increases
• Possible type changes
• New abilities
• Visual design modifications

The transformation only lasts for the duration of the battle, and the Pokémon returns to its normal form once the fight ends.

This system first appeared in the sixth generation and was later replaced by other mechanics such as Z-Moves or the Dynamax phenomenon. With Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the franchise brings back this system as a core part of the gameplay.

The new title includes numerous Mega Evolutions that previously appeared in the series. These forms return as part of the battle system in the game set in Kalos.

Most of these Mega Evolutions were originally introduced in Pokémon X and Y or in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, where the system expanded to include more species capable of Mega Evolving.

New Mega Evolutions Introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

In addition to bringing back existing forms, the game also introduces new Mega Evolutions, expanding the list of Pokémon capable of using this mechanic.

Among the newly confirmed forms are:

• Mega Dragonite
• Mega Chesnaught
• Mega Delphox
• Mega Greninja

The last three correspond to the final evolutions of the Kalos starter Pokémon, reinforcing the connection between the game and this region.

These new forms feature visual redesigns and adjustments to stats or abilities, although several full details about their attributes have not yet been officially released.

Additional Mega Evolutions in Downloadable Content

The additional content for the game, identified as “Mega Dimension”, introduces new Mega Evolution variants.

Among the revealed forms are:

• Mega Raichu X
• Mega Raichu Y

These variants follow a concept similar to previously introduced forms such as Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, where each version prioritizes different combat styles.

The downloadable content also expands the story with new zones and events related to the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa, known for its ability to manipulate dimensions.

How Many Mega Evolutions Will the Game Have

Estimates based on preliminary guides and reports from specialized media suggest that Pokémon Legends: Z-A could include more than 70 Mega Evolutions, combining:

• Classic forms from previous games
• New Mega Evolutions created for the title
• Additional variants introduced through downloadable content

Before the official announcement of several of these forms, leaks also circulated suggesting the existence of more than 20 new Mega Evolutions, although not all of them have been confirmed by official sources.
