Netflix is betting on continuing to explore Hawkins and the Upside Down with brand-new stories, an eighties aesthetic, and classic characters, keeping one of the most iconic franchises of recent years alive.
Although Stranger Things says goodbye with its fifth season, the phenomenon created by the Duffer Brothers is far from disappearing. Netflix has officially confirmed a new series set within the same universe.
Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 will be the franchise’s first official spin-off: an animated series that preserves mystery, supernatural horror, 80s nostalgia, and the creatures of the Upside Down.

A key period for fans. The story will bring back classic characters such as Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and Hopper, though with new standalone adventures and a completely different visual style.
According to the Duffer Brothers, the series will blend 1980s-inspired animated aesthetics with a modern approach, combining action, horror, and science fiction, while aiming to preserve the essence of the characters from a new perspective.

Netflix is already working on more Stranger Things projects, including another live-action series set in a different era with entirely new characters. The goal is to expand the franchise into a broader narrative universe, with more monsters, theories, and Upside Down secrets, proving that Hawkins still has much to offer.
In short, Stranger Things is not saying goodbye: it’s evolving. With an animated series on the way and new projects in development, Netflix is betting big on one of its most successful franchises.
