On its 15th anniversary, the League of Legends World Championship doesn’t just celebrate epic matches—it honors the journey behind them. Today, “Sacrifice”, the official anthem for Worlds 2025, was released, performed by international artist G.E.M., known for her powerful vocals and emotional storytelling.
The video opens with a direct tribute to Shushei, champion of the first Worlds in 2011 with Fnatic and a key figure in the early days of competitive LoL. His appearance serves as an emotional and historical anchor, reminding us that before packed stadiums and millions of viewers, there were pioneers who paved the way with passion and sacrifice. Following his passing in April 2025, this gesture feels like a well-deserved and necessary recognition.
More than just a song, it’s an open letter to players, fans, and competitive legends. The video revisits iconic moments from Worlds history, with a special homage to Shushei, the first world champion. The lyrics speak of dedication, community, and the price of chasing a dream.
“I gave it all, even when no one saw.” — G.E.M.
The video was edited at the last minute to remove player Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau, following backlash over sexist comments made during a Twitch stream. Riot delayed the release to adjust the content, stating it was inappropriate to include him in a piece meant to represent competitive values.
A powerful song that conveys melancholy, but at times seems disconnected from the video. The visual narrative once again relies on fight scenes between players wielding weapons that evoke their representative champions, creating a contrast with the emotional tone of the music. It’s a safe bet, as always, but lacks risk. Newer players might miss the subtle nods; it’s a solid tribute, but personally, I would’ve liked to see Riot take more creative risks—especially for a 15th anniversary release.
The official video is live on YouTube and streaming platforms. Riot also released visual assets for creators, including instrumental and subtitled versions.
