A new leak suggests that Ubisoft is preparing the biggest change in the history of the Far Cry franchise. Although the studio has not officially announced the game yet, insider RogueTx claims that the next installment will feature survival mechanics, PvEvP extraction gameplay, and a campaign limited by a 72-hour timer.

If confirmed, Far Cry 7 would move away from part of the franchise's traditional formula by introducing systems inspired by extraction and survival games.

A leak points to the merger of two projects

Over the past few months, several rumors suggested that Ubisoft was developing two separate Far Cry projects.

On one hand, Project Blackbird was reportedly focused on a single-player campaign, while Project Maverick was described as a multiplayer experience centered on extraction gameplay.

According to information shared by RogueTx, both projects have reportedly been merged into a single game, allowing the campaign and PvEvP mechanics to coexist within the same experience.

So far, Ubisoft has not confirmed this information.

Alaska could become the new setting

The leak also claims that Far Cry 7 will move its story to Alaska, leaving behind the tropical environments and mountainous regions featured in previous entries.

The protagonist's objective would be to rescue six members of their family, who have been kidnapped by a group known as the Sons of Truth.

In addition to confronting the cult, players would need to survive harsh weather conditions and face local wildlife, including:

  • Bears.
  • Wolves.
  • Foxes.
  • Deer.

Survival against the environment would play a much larger role than in previous titles.

A campaign with a 72-hour limit

One of the most notable changes would be the introduction of a 72-hour time limit to complete the story.

According to RogueTx, the available time would force players to carefully decide which objectives to complete first and when to return to a safehouse to recover.

The insider also notes that it is still unclear whether the timer will run in real time or follow an internal in-game cycle.

Either way, the decisions made throughout the campaign would directly affect how many family members can be rescued before time runs out.

Survival, safehouses, and PvEvP extraction

The leak describes a much deeper survival system than anything previously seen in the franchise.

Among the reported mechanics are:

  • Progressive weapon durability.
  • Equipment repair using collected resources.
  • Safe Houses.
  • Resource gathering.
  • Inventory management.

Weapons could lose accuracy or even malfunction if they are not properly maintained, forcing players to carefully manage the resources collected during exploration.

The game would also feature a PvEvP extraction mode, where players enter dangerous areas to gather supplies and equipment before successfully extracting.

As with other games in the genre, dying during an extraction would mean losing all the loot collected.

Ubisoft has not confirmed these details

For now, all of this information comes from RogueTx's leak and has not been officially confirmed by Ubisoft.

If these changes make it into the final version, Far Cry 7 could become one of the most distinct entries in the franchise, introducing survival, progression, and extraction systems that would significantly reshape the series' traditional formula.

Until Ubisoft officially unveils the project, these details should be treated as rumors surrounding the game's development.
