Gameplay Mechanics

The most unique aspect of Anichess is the inclusion of spells in the traditional game, taking strategy to another level. These magical mechanics add a new layer of creativity to the game. Here are some of the highlighted spells:

• Parkour Mech: permanently transforms a piece (except the king and queen) into a knight. Casting the spell counts as a move. Cost: 3 mana | Limit: 2 casts

• Impostor: Swap a piece with an opponent's piece of the same type, except pawns and kings. The spell counts as a move. Cost: 5 mana | Limit: 2 casts

• Shot in the dark:

Move (or keep in place) a piece invisibly once, revealing its position on your next turn. Cannot be cast on the Queen. Cost: 3 mana | Limit: 3 casts

• House Recruit: create a pawn on an empty square between rows 3 and 6. The spell counts as a move. Cost: 4 mana | Limit: 3 casts

• Bis-Hop 2:0: Jump with your bishop over a piece in its path. The spell can be cast to capture the first piece it encounters. Cost: 4 mana | Limit: 3 casts

• Queen's Time: allows a knight, bishop, or rook to move like a queen once during its turn. The piece can be captured during this move. Cost: 8 mana | Limit: 1 cast

• Sliding: Move a pawn, knight, or rook diagonally to an adjacent square once during your turn, stealing one mana from the opponent. Cannot be cast to capture a piece. Cost: 1 mana | Limit: 5 casts

• Shifting: Move a pawn, knight, or bishop horizontally to an empty adjacent square once during your turn, stealing one mana from the opponent. Cannot be cast to capture a piece. Cost: 1 mana | Limit: 5 casts

• Tactical Necessity: Sacrifice a piece to destroy the opponent's lowest-ranked piece, excluding kings and pawns. The ranking of pieces is Queen > Rook > Bishop > Knight > Pawn. Cost: 1 mana | Limit: 3 casts
