Minecraft The Sift: What It Is and When the New Dimension Arrives

Minecraft will have a new dimension for the first time in more than 14 years. Mojang Studios introduced The Sift during Minecraft LIVE in September 2026 and confirmed that this new world will arrive on Java and Bedrock in 2027.

The dimension will also make an early appearance in Minecraft Dungeons II, where players will be able to explore it from the game's launch on September 29, 2026. However, the exact date when The Sift will become available in traditional Minecraft has not yet been confirmed.

What is The Sift in Minecraft?

The Sift will be a new dimension added to the main Minecraft universe, joining the Overworld, Nether, and The End. It will therefore become the game's fourth major dimension.

Mojang describes it as a colorful place filled with souls, featuring environments, creatures, and rules that differ from those found in the other dimensions. The presentation showcased some of its environments and creatures, although much of its content is still being kept secret.

Among the areas shown are Meadows and Carapace, two regions that are part of the new dimension. There will also be new mobs, some of which can become allies, as well as hostile creatures that will pose new threats to players.

The Sift will also feature dangerous blocks and unique mechanics. Mojang has stated that certain conditions in this dimension may affect the character and those around them, meaning that exploring it will not work exactly the same way as in the Overworld, Nether, or End.

When is The Sift coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock?

The currently confirmed release window is 2027, but Mojang has not yet announced a specific day or month for the launch of The Sift in Minecraft Java and Bedrock.

The company did showcase an early version of the dimension in development during Minecraft LIVE, confirming that work is already underway to bring it to the main game. However, not all details about how it will work or the definitive way to access it have been revealed yet.

Therefore, any specific date currently circulating should be considered unconfirmed until Mojang publishes official information.

The Sift will arrive first in Minecraft Dungeons II

Although Minecraft players will have to wait until 2027, The Sift will be available to explore earlier in Minecraft Dungeons II, which is scheduled to launch on September 29, 2026.

In this sequel, the world will consist of interconnected regions rather than relying solely on the level-based structure of the first Minecraft Dungeons. During the adventure, rifts will appear that allow players to access The Sift.

This version of the dimension will allow players to discover some of its biomes, creatures, and mechanics before its integration into the main game. However, Mojang has not confirmed that all elements featured in Dungeons II will be transferred to Minecraft Java and Bedrock in exactly the same way.

With its arrival in 2027, The Sift will officially become Minecraft's fourth dimension and introduce a new possibility for exploration and survival within the game.

For now, 2027 is the only confirmed release window for Java and Bedrock. While Mojang provides further details about its development, Minecraft Dungeons II will be the first opportunity to experience this new dimension starting September 29, 2026.
